I found an old screen door (for $5) that I am going to paint black for our pantry- it has (2) openings on the top part of door- I was going to line with material & put cork on the inside for a hidden bulletin board.- I've also tossed the idea around of some kind of mesh for the outside of the openings

Our neighbors are painting their house, and built scaffolding attaching it to the eves. At first we were concerned it wouldn't hold, but it appears to be quite stable. If we ever paint our exterior again, I'm going to suggest that to my husband.

Yeah, I have the same issue. I just have some furniture up against the walls. Can't be helped and while it would be nice to put furniture precisely where I want it, reality frequently intervenes. I do needlework and need light, free hands, and a comfy chair.

Interesting comments about pillows. I am short. My husband is tall. The pillows he moves out of his way I tuck behind my back so that I can sit comfortably and still keep my feet on the floor. I've also noted that the firm, hard pillows slide off our leather sofa while the soft, "chopped" ones stay in place.

Great reminder that a laundry room can and should be more about design and function.
Also, great detail on open shelving "Lower open shelving is great for quick access. Plus, you won’t have to push full laundry baskets out of the way to open cabinet doors."

OK, I have the fix for the smelly front loaders. I'm on my third one and was ready to give up. I tried everything including afresh, microban, benefect. I trying to open up the inside of the machine (which broke one machine). I am not one to use softeners, I try to keep things simple and healthy. I also don't like perfumey smells, too sensitive. Enough said, the fix is simple, change your laundry detergent to a powder!!! It really works. What happens is the liquid detergent (surfactant) sticks to the outer side of the drum (the part you can't clean) then mold starts to grow there. Also, use a VERY small amount to powdered detergent. You don't need too much and it's wasteful anyway. It almost doesn't seem that it is enough to clean but its fine. I sometimes add baking soda, oxyboost or borax depending on load. I still keep the door cracked open and once in while use the very hot setting.

It's not the brand machine, I had a maytag, whirlpool and now a bosch. The first machine took a few years before I noticed the smell, but when I changed it out, the second machine was only 6 months before it started. I think the mold spores were already in the air and it grew faster.

I've only been able to find one powdered detergent for HE, it's the Tide one. Costco has a powder that they say works with he, but it suds up too much.

I have 2 friends that complained about the problem, they are now using powdered detergent and are happy.

cbg1019, I totally agree. (See my post way above.) Switching to powdered got rid of the smell. I saw the same tip online about how the liquid leaves a coating on the inside of the drum that cant be reached to wash it, and mold grows on it. I use about 1/4 cup powdered Tide per load.

Tcm, this is a fantasy shelter site for most of us who live in our "real world". I will never be in the income level that it takes to have most of these upscale remodeled professionally (for the most part) designed spaces. I wont live long enough to completely remodel our TRUE farmhouse that needs so much work. Enjoy the ideas and pick some that will work for you. For real life, i love the ADVICE section of HOUZZ. For real time capsule houses, I enjoy Retro Renovation. I love to "dream" at HOUZZ. ;)

Thanks for your question! We don't have the exact specifications for this particular project, but it is a natural marble. If you are interested in this look, we would recommend a quartz product with a stone look (e.g., Ceasarstone’s London Grey, Frosty Carrina, Silstone’s Lagoon, or Cambria’s Torquay.)

Shakuff, the light fixture does draw the eye upward.
We have a fancy chandelier in our entry that I liked, but it certainly doesn't do the same. Our beautiful high ceilings could do with some highlighting.

Our entry is not finished. On one side is our early 19th century trimeau (mirror surrounded/topped by a painting) and the other is a low bench with great frame and zebra fabric. But it doesn't have enough presence yet.
Would love to add that pond in front. Sigh...
