@ckohmescher - Our guess would be that the dishwasher is left of the sink and has a finished panel on the front. If it is a smaller dishwasher, like the 18" wide type, then it is probably to the right of the sink.

I'd also say left of the sink, fully integrated behind the door panel. That door panel is larger than the others to the right. If it wasn't there, the designer would most likely have made all those doors the same width. The only other alternative for the location of the dishwasher is on the island, in the form of two fully integrated Fisher and Paykel Dish Drawers.

Great ideas! Also, it was interesting to see the incorporation of homes that have a less modern feel as this idea of hiding the technology seems to normally be incorporated in more modern homes.

We often help our Clients achieve an uncompromised and coherent traditional and classical design without renouncing the comforts of modern technology. Most of the historic buildings we work on were build before electricity and running water were in use!
In this family room, originally built in the XVII Century, we have introduced a projector - hidden in the automatic ceiling hatch - and a large screen and speakers - hidden in the down-standing beam above the fireplace .

I love the whimsy of this space... so much more inspiring than a plain ol' desk! I'm in love with the idea of painting the brick to look aged, what a great way to warm up a space too. I'm curious if you have any tips for sparing the mortar from the paint? Thanks for sharing!

Great ideas in this article to use "wood with personality" in a number of ways. We recently finished a kitchen remodel in Great Falls, VA that brought together 2 antique doors to recreate a sliding door which, in turn, created something new for this family while maintaining the history of these doors.

Becky, you are correct about the toilet. The wall plate for the flush activator can be removed to access for repair. Also, in this case, the other side of the wall is the basement stairs so it could be opened up if necessary. But the Toto people tell me that anything you'd need to access you can through that wall plate which is 8.5" wide x 5.75" high.

mimi102, yes! I love your reverse take on the "shows all the dust" complaint - that way you KNOW when it's dirty. Right now we have a lightish laminate in the kitchen that has kind of swirly shades of brown in it. It hides the dirt almost too well. You don't realize how dirty it is until it's absolutely filthy! I think I'd like a black floor - perhaps in a small space like an entry.

My house is never perfectly clean, but is livable and clean enough so I'm not embarrassed when people drop by. When I had kids at home ,I took the 5 minute approach. The 3 of us would gather in the livingroom and set the timer for 5 minutes and we all worked as fast as we could. In 5 minutes it was clean and vaccumed and dusted, etc. Works for the kitchen and bedrooms too

One unpleasant way to spur a person to clean and declutter is to have a hoarder for a neighbor. I don't know why this is never mentioned on this site as I can't be the only person who deals with it, but I've never seen it addressed. Anyway, when I found out for sure that my neighbor wasn't just a lousy housekeeper, but a true hoarder, I wrote my mom an email thanking her for bringing me up in a perfectly clean home. After having to complain to the city about the state of her property, and seeing the inside of her house after some of her friends decided to dehoard for her, when one of us is going to throw something out, we ask each other if we have a deep emotional attachment to it.

Packing for our recent move, I went through boxes of stuff I hadn't touched since our initial move 12 years prior! I figured for the most part, if I hadn't used it or missed it in that time, it was time to let it go. However, there were some things that brought back certain memories and stories for me, and I knew these were the reasons I hung onto them for so long--they were valuable memories and I was afraid of forgetting them without the physical item as a reminder. But our new house had far less storage so we needed to downsize and I was looking forward to purging. And I also knew I didn't want to deal with lots of clutter for our next move. So for large items that don't fit in a shoebox, instead of keeping the actual physical item, I plan to create a scrapbook with photos of these things with a narrative of the story that went along with them. Then they're headed for donation to hopefully create memories for someone else! And once we have all our furniture and appliance needs met, we're dealing with inflow and outflow by not acquiring any item for the home unless at least one of similar size leaves.
