Talianko Design Group, LLC Of course, you need to do what you love BUT the reason you've had these suggestions is because they are natural choices with red (brick). Green and gold are combined in schemes with red because they work. In your case, consider the neighbors. Don't do gold if the guy next door has a gold house, for example. This example of the sage green is too strong. Try a mintier green for the siding and let your garage doors be white as with the rest of the wood trim.

Lkristine It is distinct, personalized , yet blends, all at the same time, without looking like the house next door. Very pretty. Mint is beautiful, however a little to cold for the brick IMO.

Cat Rowe Stef - I am a fan of wood garage doors without windows. If you are in your garage at night with the light on, people will be able to see you. We tried it for a week and neighbors said they could see through. So we went with a roll up wood with no windows. Additionally, painting the door your siding colour unifies the garage door with the rest of the home. They don't stand out. They blend. Like your pictures! Good luck! You have a great home!

Talianko Design Group, LLC I think you just need to trim it out and make it into a bookshelf or display alcove. Use the same white paint on the sides and casing and shelves. Possibly add a contrast color or grasscloth or some other wall covering on the back to add interest. Then, find a different piece of art or a mirror to hang horizontally over your mantle. Make sure the top of the new piece is not higher than the bookshelf alcove. This will give you a feeling of balance. Sight lines are very important when hanging art, window treatments, built ins, etc. Try to make sense of things by having them "line up" with something else in the room.

Talianko Design Group, LLC Are you able to do something on the other side to balance the alcove? It doesn't have to be the exact same thing or purpose but height and arch are important.

Talianko Design Group, LLC If there is a door to the left of the fireplace, consider making the door arched with the same radius as the alcove OR make the alcove horizontal on the top of it. If both the top of the alcove and the doorway are at the same height, you will achieve a nice feeling of balance.

yoboseiyo second thought :: does the top come off that wall unit?
if does, see if the bottom will fit in the alcove.
even if it's too big, what you could do is place the bottom of the unit in front of the alcove, and then get a nice piece of birch ply cut to shape to cover not only the top of the unit, but the open space behind it.
support the back of the top with some 2x4s screwed into studs, and make sure to get the iron-on edging for the ply. then paint the bottom of the unit a nice light color, or even sand it down and restain it to a nicer color (that honey oak really dates it.). if you paint the base, stain the new top.
it'll look like a BIG substantial piece of built-in furniture, and it's a truely custom look.
then you could trim out the rest of the alcove if you like that look, and add shelves above the unit.
and you can hang the TV on the wall it currently sits on, or even in the alcove, if you prefer.

morpork I had over 12 meters of black granite in the previous house I owned and can honestly say, if you use e-cloths to wipe the granite down after each time you use the kitchen you won't see water marks. You should wipe the sides down every time you use the kitchen anyway for hygiene reasons.

Wyland Interior Design Center Yes, the Absolute Black does show water spots, which it shows you where you need to clean. Busier granites you have a hard time seeing what dirt and grime you missed. However, not all black granite will show water spots or ring marks. Consider going with one of these granite slabs.

Talianko Design Group, LLC I have not tried this but it may be that you are applying the sealer too thickly. (When I have used it on my counter top, I use a rag and wipe it on.) Much like painting that is too thick to dry properly before it runs. I would probably ask at the hardware store if you plan to purchase another brand and try again.

Talianko Design Group, LLC I always advise my clients to check with a realtor who knows their area. Tell them what you are planning to do, how much it will cost and see if it is practical. You never want to "over build the neighborhood"!

bevballew Agree blunan! thanks! Interesting. I am 60 years old and love a bath! It is like a massage for me and to sit in a bit nicer tiled bathtub area is liking being in the Ritz for me and cheaper because I don't have to pay for the Ritz. Agree high end homes want a master bath. I have a larger home with a tub and larger shower in my master bathroom but only one sink. i just had a real estate agent over who just left and he said more important to have the tub and larger shower than double sinks since I have only one sink. I agree size of the house probably a big factor. When my children were young we had a 2300 square foot home with one bath. The master bathroom had just a shower. I dreamed for the day when I could have a more luxurious bath and one not so dated....but I am a bath person. It depends on the size of the bathroom as i think back to my smaller master bath. it was a nice size shower and i did enjoy it but had wished for a nicer updated bath in the other bathroom. It is up to you. I think it truly depends on the size of the home and bathroom!

o2girl2456 As long as you have a bath tub in the house for kids. Most people want spa like shower and I am certain you do too! We ave sold 2 houses that we did spa showers and no tub in master. Don't believe regional. Ask anyone who has tub how often they use it??

yoboseiyo for the idea with the panels on magnets, look at IKEA for panels. they've got plain and nice colored ones, not too $$$, and most don't need hemming. easiest way to make them would be to cut the panels to size with about 2" extra top and bottom. then glue or even thumbtack them to pieces of lattice. this will give them a little stability, and they won't waver like fabric when the door is opened.
then you just glue on your magnets (or use peel and stick strips from michaels/joanns, the panels aren't heavy.), and magnet them to the framing.
with that idea, you could wrap the magnet-frame idea all along the 2 walls, and cover the water heater area as well.
if you need regular access to those areas, IKEA has curtain tracks that would allow the panels to move. it'll make the project a little more expensive, but not out of reach for most people.

Scott Design, Inc. Here is a quick plan view of your laundry room. I do not know the dimensions but the concept would be the same. You may have to jog the framing (in/out, high/low) to cover some of the pipes and you may have to leave some of them exposed in order to fit sliding doors, etc. The panels can be plain 1/2" thick plywood that you can paint or they can be beadboard MDF panels, both available from lumber yards or Home Depot. If you get flush doors for the sliders, you can paint or apply a mural wallpaper to them along with the plain plywood panels. Just be sure there is ventilation for the equipment located behind the doors and that they can be removed if and when the hot water heaters need replacing. I have also suggested a pocket door for your laundry entry.
I don't know what you have in your budget for this project but this should be done by a carpenter. Ask him to come over and see if this can be done... framing, hang the doors, panels, and wall cabinets and install the hardware. And I'm sure he will make adjustments to this approach according to jobsite conditions. Ask him for a quote.

Talianko Design Group, LLC Probably not. Make sure to write down all of your needs for the remodel and add up the costs before starting. Try to add 20% to whatever you come up with to be realistic.

Scott Design, Inc. In addition to cabinets and granite tops, there is labor for dismantling old kitchen, cabinet installation, electrical, plumbing, tiling of backsplash, floor installation/repair, sheetrock repair/installation, painting? Will you be doing any of this work?
There will also be costs for such things as debris removal, sink, faucet, soap dispenser, lighting fixtures, tile (for back splash possibly) and hardware.
As Talianko Design said, add up all of the potential costs before you start.

Talianko Design Group, LLC I would also add that a vinyl window is most appropriate in this application. A funny story. When my boys were both small and often showered together for the fun of it, they got a bit rambunctious and one knocked the other a little too hard against the shower wall. Guess what? Our shower wall caved in! We too, had a WOOD WINDOW in the shower wall as it was there when we bought the home. Little did we know, the water had been making it's way into the wall until finally, it gave way. Our kids were very surprised! They "didn't know their strength". I do have to say, it was worth doing the repair and adding back in another vinyl window. It's the best view of the house!

Matt Patterson Custom Homes Better flash & counter flash the heck out of it. I tiled the sill with lots of positive drainage. Privacy...None! But on a hundred wooded acres & being empty nesters who cares!
