We have a smallish foyer that I decided to perk up. It has a coat closet that I bought all new wooden hangers for and the only garments hanging in it are whatever is appropriate for that season. All coats, jackets, etc. that are out of season hang in the basement on a good sized rack. On the shelf in the closet there is enough room for two bins that hold gloves, scarves, etc. The foyer is just large enough for a traditional narrow cherry wood sofa table. I decided to break out of the traditional look of it by putting a more modern large print on canvas that has all the decor colors of our home, along with a few splashes of shiny gold. I think I ordered it from the Christmas Tree store so it didn't cost much. In addition to a smallish crystal foyer light - it has to be small because if it was larger and more impressive the front door would hit it when it opens - on the table I also have a brushed gold lamp and accessories. I also dug out an old antique mirror that has a gold frame I placed on the wall where you go upstairs. It helps brighten up the small space. I added a round ceramic garden table under the table and a nice bright indoor/outdoor rug by the door. We generally don't use the front door, instead we enter via the garage where we have a boot tray for outdoor shoes. We don't wear shoes in the house.
