“5 or 6 years we made a decision to relocate to Vermont and build. We interviewed several designers/architects and almost instantly had connection with Ray, he seemed to be what we needed. Our process was a long one, but Ray stuck with us. We stopped the project after for a while after we started with Ray and wasn't sure we'd come back. After a year or so we knew we wanted to jump back in. Ray picked us back up immediately. His attention to detail you'll find unmatched. He is great at suggestions and also adapting to his clients ideas. Soon after we started back we lost our builder. He helped us set up interviews and select a new builder. We started back up at the beginning of the covid pandemic , but Ray worked with us and we managed to visit door/window, flooring, countertops and cabinet vendors with his assistance. he was with us every step of the way. We were lucky to get one of the better builders in upper Vermont and he was very complimentary of Ray's attention to detail and guidance. Ray saw the project to its completion. We've been in over a year now and could not be happier with our finished product.”

“My wife and I built our dream home in Stowe, Vermont. Our relationship with Travis Cutler a partner at Donald Blake was most enjoyable, considering the size of this undertaking. We established a fixed price at the out set and knew any extras would be an additional cost. My wife who is an interior designer and who designed the whole house was very efficient and made sure all details would be submitted on time. So from the original estimation of 19 months the house was completed in 16 months. Our architect Cushman Design Group did not need to supervise, since he had complete confidence in the builders capabilities. All the crew were very professional and they took great pride in their work and it showed in the finish product. We would highly recommend Donald Blake Jr. for any future building projects. “We loved working with Understory and would trust them with any project, they will be our first call in future. They do high quality work and ensure that from all of their subcontractors as well. Their problem solving abilities on site were impressive, they always came up with solutions to tricky problems that kept us on track. They're highly organized and good communicators. Impressively, they delivered on schedule and on budget during a time period with inflation and supply chain issues where no one else we knew of could pull that off. Pricing was transparent and fair. And they bring a positive energy to the jobsite, from Brad and Kieran and all of the team, who are all nice people that you'd want working on your house. We could not recommend them highly enough!”

“Ray Boutin provided all the design work and most of the supervision on a significant home improvement project on our new house in Hyde Park, Vt. As the chief designer for Vermont Vernacular, the firm that did the work, Ray was our key contact and an outstanding collaborator for us. He was exceptionally creative, imaginative and thoughtful, and a great pleasure to work with. And he paid careful attention to all details. We were so pleased with Ray's work and the job that Vermont Vernacular did for us that we are hiring Ray and his firm to do a major addition to the house this spring. All the workmen that VV and Ray brought onto the job were skillful and very good to work with. We have just moved to Vermont, and we were a little nervous about taking on a construction project when we don't know the territory. But, with Ray and VV, it was an outstanding experience. --Maxwell King”

“Honest, trustworthy accurate and fair. All work carried out was to the highest quality. We went away on vacation and gave Paul an over view of our project including refinishing our basement and changing exterior doors and windows. We came back to a fully executed project. All items were carried out exactly as desired. No complaints! He stayed on budget too! Will be calling Paul back for more exterior work this spring! A great professional!”
