Just to clarify - Revere Pewter is not really a grey but a light greige - one of the most hardworking colours at the moment as it is so versatile. I would certainly try it as a test before you discard it. I think it would work beautifully with your colours....

I think before you paint you should get a few pillows in colors that you like so that you can see how they do in the area. Here are a few ideas:

If you are planning on getting a new, larger rug, why not choose one and then pick a color from it for your walls (not a matching color, but a lighter shade)

Revere Pewter would be a good wall color. Get a rug with an all over pattern in a less oblong shape... Probably 8x10. Choose some throw pillows with color and pattern. Windows should both be dressed the same. Due to different sizes, you might do wood blinds with flat cornices in pattern with same colors as in pillows. Mount cornices 10-12 in above windows. You can find directions for making flat cornices yourself with no sewing. You will need tables and lamps to put finishing touches.

vertical stripes in shades mostly soft gray variety of widths with some theme of movement adds a visual plus without distracting like a subtle optical illusion. You can do it! Go gray!

I would recommend you turn the rug the other way and at least have the edge under the long sofa area, not just under the foot rest on the opposite side. I would suggest you find a pastel you like for the walls and then add plain white curtains or perhaps a dark grey and white print that still will coordinate with the rug. Some throw pillows in a bright accent color will help too.
