This lovely breakfast room, overlooking the garden, is an inviting place to start your day lingering over Sunday morning coffee. I had the walls painted in a soft coral, contrasting with various wood tones in the armoire, table and shades. It is all tied together by keeping the chair covers and rug light in color. The crystal chandelier is an unexpected element in a breakfast room, yet, your not compelled to pull out the china and silver.
LORRAINE G VALE, Allied ASID Hello Catladymom-This is an oval antique, oak, drop leaf table with twisted barley legs. The table fully extended is 42"W x 58"L. With the oval ends 'dropped', it measures 20"W x 42"L.

LORRAINE G VALE, Allied ASID Cindy,
These castered chairs are from Lee Industries. They also made the slipcovers with COM fabric that I provided to them.

LORRAINE G VALE, Allied ASID This gorgeous gate leg table is an antique purchase at a local Charleston antique store. There are reproductions you can find at retail.
LORRAINE G VALE, Allied ASID Hello,
I love that rug, too. You can't see the details in this photo, it has a very subtle stripe. It is a broadloom, cut to this custom size and that I had surged all around. It is 100% wool from Godfrey Hirst?
Thank you for your interest,
Lorraine
Riad Fabric - I am trying to decorate guest room; the room is painted lighter shade than the soft coral in this image. I have bought white furniture for this room. Also, I would like to do custom upholstered headboard. Would the Riad fabric be a good choice for headboard?? if not what would you recommend (color/fabric)? »
LORRAINE G VALE, Allied ASID I love the graphic pattern of this fabric. It is 100% linen, durability is Heavy Duty. I would have it treated for stain resistance, which is what I have done here. This would be great in a tall headboard to get the full affect of the pattern-no tufting.
It comes in 9 yummy colors. Color 15 would look amazing in a guest room with white furniture! Check it out:

LORRAINE G VALE, Allied ASID Hello-and thank you for your interest in my work-This is a 25 year old pine armoir purchased in Boston from a shop on Newberry St. Unfortunately, I do not know the maker.

LORRAINE G VALE, Allied ASID Hello and thank you for your interest in this room,
The color is Ben Moore, #2170-30 Autumn Cover. I have used it on all the walls in this kitchen and breakfast room. This is one of those colors in which a little goes a long way. As you can see here, there is not a lot of wall space.

Linen on chairs? - I am considering using this fabric for a large roman shade in my living room, but know that it is 100% linen. Are their any issues with wrinkling? I want the shade to look clean and neat. What are your thoughts? »
LORRAINE G VALE, Allied ASID In this breakfast room, I have used linen on the chairs and the stationary drapery panels with natural fiber shades. Wrinkling is the only issue with linen. If you have your heart set on a particular linen fabric, then I would use it as long as you can accept the beauty of it's inherent qualities. Be sure to line them as well to prevent fading and fiber breakdown from the sun.
Good luck and thank you for your interest in my work!

LORRAINE G VALE, Allied ASID Hello-so sorry for the delay in this response-I just now noticed it. The linen print fabric was purchased through Kravet Riad in Dune, the contrast orange is Duralee.
Thank you for your question,

LORRAINE G VALE, Allied ASID Isc87-Thank you for your inquiry. This is an antique, but, I just happened to be looking through a catalog from Wisteria, Jan. 2012. On p.42, there is a table very similar to this one-Arcadia Wood Gateleg Table. It's bigger, but your space might be able to use it. Check it out:

Lorraine,
I love the scale of the light fixture. Can you tell me where I can find it please? I really love everything about this room but you answered all of my other questions... »
Hi Lorriane,
I know you answered the question about the shades however I am in search of shades for my shingle style home and I am at a loss. All magazines and websites say they are custom. Any suggestions as to where I can buy or order them without a decorator? »
dizzydecorator I ordered beautiful lined woven wood blinds on the Internet & had them hung by an installer. They look beautiful and they cut out the setting sun. The blinds are guaranteed, so if you're not satisfied you can return them. I ordered one blind first to be sure I liked them. Wood blinds are expensive & not everyone can afford them. I would rather order them thru a decorator, but don.t have the $.
LORRAINE G VALE, Allied ASID Hey Ceili123-I just now saw your question regarding the mounting method of these blinds-the decision was simple-the molding around the window is flat. Inside mount was not possible. Most times designers solutions are for practical and functional reasons!

LORRAINE G VALE, Allied ASID Roxy-I just happened to be looking through the latest catalog from Wisteria, Jan. 2012. On p.42, there is a table very similar to this one-Arcadia Wood Gateleg Table. It's bigger, but your space might be able to use it. Check it out:

LORRAINE G VALE, Allied ASID Thank you for your question.
I love these shades. They have great texture - natural bamboo and grass - and they are very practical, keeping the harmful rays of the sun off my furnishings.
These are custom shades purchased through one of my trade vendors. Color is 'pecan'. Lorraine
hi, what kind of chair are the slipcovers covering? can you tell me where I could order that size/scale chair- i love that they aren't as high as a wing back and have a sloping, slight arm but can fit under the table!
»
photos8 Lorraine did you COM the fabric to Lee, as they do the bottom feature?
or are they a custom slipcover made elsewhere; for existing Lee chairs?
Thank you for answering as most aren't as great as you have been at keeping up
and taking the time to answer the questions. Thank you so much.
LORRAINE G VALE, Allied ASID Whitney- the color I bravely chose, is Ben Moore, Autumn Cover. It looked so bright in the can, but with no great expanse of wall in the kitchen or the breakfast room, I took the plunge and LOVE it every day!

I have a very rustic dining room set and need something to soften it up a bit. i LOVE this chandelier. It's not too frilly but gives just enough contrast to the rest of the rustic / modern design. does anyone know where i can find it? »
Kerrie L. Kelly A lot of homeowners choose can or eyeball lighting to allow their dining room furniture configuration to be versatile. If you have a sideboard you can add lamps and candlelight is always great, too!
An earthy combination of tangerine and natural wood found in the furniture and window coverings creates an organic dining experience. When you add a hint of glitz from a chandelier, the room receives an upgrade without pretentiousness.
Coral, a seaside favorite second to watery blue, together with various wood tones found in the bamboo shades, an English antique barley twist table, and a hearty armoire unveil the warmer side of coastal style.
Persimmon. This color leans more towards the orange side of coral, but you can still see its slightly reddish undertones. It's a soft, mid-tone color that is reminiscent of the many rusty-orange hues of autumn.
Paint pick: Fresno 020 by Benjamin Moore
There are three types of slipcovers: ready-made, semi-custom, and custom. The pricing can range drastically, with readymade sitting on the low end of the scale.
The custom slipcovers pictured here are nicely tailored and trimmed with custom fabrics, making a custom choice a more pricey option.
If you have a smaller space in your home, painting it tangerine could help it stand out. Pick out just the right shade to mesh with the rest of your home's decor, and add in a few matching accents to maintain a uniform look.
Give one piece of furniture an important position. Create impressive impact on a large piece of furniture by using a contrasting wood tone all around it. The piece feels special. In this case, a knotty pine armoire becomes the star with deep tones of pecan and chocolate surrounding it.
Slipcovers are great for protecting couches and chairs. Buy machine-washable slipcovers made from flat brushed cottons, polyester blends and brushed velvet. Try finding a slipcover that has a stain-resistant finish for easy wipe-up.
If you want your existing dining chairs to seem more formal, create slipcovers for them. Play with the pattern and colors of the fabric to make a splashy but temporary statement.
