Harrell Remodeling The back splash porcelain tile - low maintenance and can mimic other stone without the upkeep. We suggest going to Artistic Tile or Porcenalosa for a good selection of tile.
Wood under cabinets? - Isn't one of the main dangers of wood under the cabinets that if the wood gets wet (broken pipe wet) it will buckle and destroy the cabinets? »
mrandmrslowry I'm referring to the wood flooring. Most places where wood is used is not around a sink, like bathrooms or kitchens. Was this danger avoided somehow here?
bepsf Perhaps the owner is simply unconcerned with that, just as some others are have no problems with having wood floors in their bathrooms or basements.
pamroyko What color and type are these floors I am thinking slate? I love it with the light wood and I am currently looking to replace part of wood floors in the kitchen due to water damage ...
If doing an entire stone or porcelain floor isn't quite your style, consider doing what this family did, and create a kitchen "rug" out of tile. This part of the kitchen floor will probably be used the most by the family, and this tough and long-lasting stone won't suffer the same damage as hardwood in this area would.
In this kitchen, stone tiles are laid in the center, but not all the way to the cabinets, with the wood surrounding its perimeter. It gives the effect of an area rug.
Also interesting if you use wood in dining and living, but put a tile or other material better suited to heavy cooking traffic in kitchen. Maybe that same material is in back hall and entryway and office and mudrood and power room?
