Are you asking about the cabinets, or the flooring? The flooring is pine with very dark stain and multiple coats of sealer.

These fixtures are from Schoolhouse Electric: http://www.schoolhouseelectric.com/lighting/pendant-fixtures/rhondes-4.html -
you select the fixture, select the finish and length, then select the shade separately: http://www.schoolhouseelectric.com/shadesthatfit/index/index/fitter_size/4/

Hi,

The dog bone shapes are actually cutouts, not handles, and the labels were engraved in the drawerheads (the engraved areas were then painted a slightly darker shade of blue to highlight the letters).

So - it was all done right in the wood itself, nothing is surface applied.

At the beginning of the project there were 3 dogs, during the remodel one of them died (not related to the construction!) and it ended up with the 2 outer bowls being used for food and the central one for water.

Of course you can tailor the design to however many bowls you need.

In the kitchen above, the surface around the dog dishes is the same lacquer that is on the rest of the cabinetry. On a subsequent project I added a new feature - stainless steel around the bowls to protect the surface better.

The picture below shows it in detail. This setup is actually for a dog, but don't you love how the Maine Coon cat photobombed himself in?

The ceiling though is a must, but in a different finish, and the dog dish unit will get worked in using reclaimed wood from our demolition. This particular top has been sealed with a special sealer, so it needs to be treated somewhat carefully - no cutting on it! The sealer makes it more resistant to water, which is important because of the sink.

You can also leave butcherblock unsealed, in which case it can be oiled with mineral oil to deepen the color and add a small amount of resistance to water and other liquids, but it will never be completely impervious to staining. Butcherblock can be sanded down to repair scratches and scars.

Some people like the patina that comes with usage and wear. If you don't, and prefer a material that always looks pristine, this may not be the surface material for you.

You just need a float valve like you would use in a toilet or a pond or a fountain and then a gravity feed like the two part dog water dishes. That is where my imagination ends and the how to sanitize issue comes in. A good plumber is your best bet. Sorry, but I can't see this as a DIY project.

Google "Nelson waterers". They've used this idea for horses and cattle for many years, and recently added a dog waterer to their products. We have horses and the waterers have lasted over 10 years outdoors. The stainless steel bowls are under a lipped cover that releases easily for cleaning. I haven't seen the dog waterers in action, but we rinse the hose bowls daily - so I can say it is easy.

The material for this ceiling comes in big stamped-metal panels (usually 24" square) that are applied with glue or nails. Some companies even make them for use in standard dropped ceilings. Try this website: http://www.americantinceilings.com/pattern/?gclid=CIOKr6-o7q0CFQnd4AodmlJ97Q for more info.

A protected pet station. The kitchen tends to be the best place for feeding pets, but those metal bowls full of kibble and water always seem to get underfoot.
