A special way to keep dog dishes out from underfoot. Dogbone drawers hold treats, leashes and other supplies. Pullout cabinet on left of island holds bulk dogfood.

The dog bones are cutouts in the drawer heads, not actual hardware per se.

To the right of the SubZero (top to bottom) is the built-in clock, a niche for pottery, a (lit) pastry display case, another niche, and a drawer.

Know that within one year that the wood around these bowls will most likely be ruined from the enzymes in their saliva. And if there is a water bowl here, you can forget about the wainscoting as well. If you're considering this, you might want to place them in a a matching Corian slab. Make sure all joints are caulked well.

edit:Thanks Artisan-didn't even imagine this station for a cat and thanks for following up! Not all animals slobber when they eat so it's not an issue at all with some dog breeds. My English pointer caused no issues, but a boxer or lab owner would possibly want to plan ahead.

Hi,
The cabinetry is perfectly intact after almost 4 years, but I appreciate your concern.

In a subsequent adaptation of the same idea, we did include stainless steel around the bowls for more protection of the horizontal surface.

you select the fixture, select the finish and length, then select the shade separately: http://www.schoolhouseelectric.com/shadesthatfit/index/index/fitter_size/4/

Hi,

The dog bone shapes are actually cutouts, not handles, and the labels were engraved in the drawerheads (the engraved areas were then painted a slightly darker shade of blue to highlight the letters).

So - it was all done right in the wood itself, nothing is surface applied.

Then in your email click on the link it will take you to the pic and then click on the pic and select save image and it should go to your camera roll. This is of course if you have an iPhone or iPad. Not sure if it will work on an android since I don't have one.

In the kitchen above, the surface around the dog dishes is the same lacquer that is on the rest of the cabinetry. On a subsequent project I added a new feature - stainless steel around the bowls to protect the surface better.

The picture below shows it in detail. This setup is actually for a dog, but don't you love how the Maine Coon cat photobombed himself in?

That fridge is my favorite part of the entire photo! Unfortunately I am in the process of restoring an 1830s log house & it wouldn't go with the décor at all. The ceiling though is a must, but in a different finish, and the dog dish unit will get worked in using reclaimed wood from our demolition. This particular top has been sealed with a special sealer, so it needs to be treated somewhat carefully - no cutting on it! The sealer makes it more resistant to water, which is important because of the sink.

You can also leave butcherblock unsealed, in which case it can be oiled with mineral oil to deepen the color and add a small amount of resistance to water and other liquids, but it will never be completely impervious to staining. Butcherblock can be sanded down to repair scratches and scars.

Some people like the patina that comes with usage and wear. If you don't, and prefer a material that always looks pristine, this may not be the surface material for you.

You just need a float valve like you would use in a toilet or a pond or a fountain and then a gravity feed like the two part dog water dishes. That is where my imagination ends and the how to sanitize issue comes in. A good plumber is your best bet. Sorry, but I can't see this as a DIY project.

Google "Nelson waterers". They've used this idea for horses and cattle for many years, and recently added a dog waterer to their products. We have horses and the waterers have lasted over 10 years outdoors. The stainless steel bowls are under a lipped cover that releases easily for cleaning. I haven't seen the dog waterers in action, but we rinse the hose bowls daily - so I can say it is easy.

The material for this ceiling comes in big stamped-metal panels (usually 24" square) that are applied with glue or nails. Some companies even make them for use in standard dropped ceilings. Try this website: http://www.americantinceilings.com/pattern/?gclid=CIOKr6-o7q0CFQnd4AodmlJ97Q for more info.

The dog dish nook is an especially clever storage solution that keeps dog dishes out of the way and prevents your puppies from knocking over their food! The dog drawer bones above hold treats and food, and labeled deep drawers to the right of the island are packed with treats for these lucky pups' owners.
Vanessa Brunner added this to Get Organized: A Place for Your Pets' Stuff
Keep food and treats tidy by setting aside an organized spot to keep dry food fresh. This custom setup has three drawers for treats and food right above the feeding area. This is a beautiful solution to a messy problem, but a large airtight plastic container near your pet's feeding area will do the trick just fine. Keep your pet's food right next to the feeding spot. The less you have to tote their food bag around the house, the less mess you'll create.
A protected pet station. The kitchen tends to be the best place for feeding pets, but those metal bowls full of kibble and water always seem to get underfoot. A built-in feeding station keeps things tidy and out of the way. This pet food station has a drawer above each bowl for treats, medication or leashes. More: A Place for Your Pets' Stuff
