Hardwood floors - What type of a redwood floors are these? I don't see a ridge are they pre-finished, what is the stain color? They appear to be oak....? »
jenntorp Thank you both for your reply. Would you mind weighing in on whether you prefer prefinished flooring or finished on site, having a hard time deciding we are covering 1200 square ft of flooring, possibly going with bruce gunstock oak prefinished but Im worried that the beveled edge with bother me.
kangrrl Went to sample the Benjamin Moore - Wedgewood Grey paint and was amazed how it doesn't look at all like this photo. The camera must have picked up the blue undertones, but in person the paint is very grey!
Michael Abrams Limited These sconces came from Lightology in Chicago; they come in several finishes and there is also a single version. Contact Jeff Wonsetler at the showroom and he can order them for you.
what is the name of the purchased casing used down the sides? Where was it purchased? How wide was it? - We are ready to do our casing and can not see the details on the picture. Is it 31/2" , or 4" down the sides. Also are the edges rounded with 2 ro 3 flutes inside it? It would help so much if you could give a few details. Thank you so much. »
Michael Abrams Limited The casing was part of the developer's package. I believe it is approximately 4" and I know it has (3) flutes...hope this helps and good luck!
How is the trim down the side of the opening made? - What is the side trim work down the sides? Is it a purchased trim or was it made by the carpenters? Is it a raised rounded edge with a raised flute in the middle? We are making one this week and would love to have some design help to make it look like yours. :) »
Suggestion for Coordinating colors to Wedgewood gray - Mr. Abrams, first off I must say how beautiful the rooms that are pictured here (Bosworth Street) are, so much so that I have been inspired to use Wedgewood Gray as my main color to redo my entire living space (Kit, LR, DR, FR and Powder room). I see you used BM Shaker Beige in the hallway, can you recommend a complimenting gray? Perhaps a yellow?? Is it okay to use a warmer brown for my family room adjacent to the wedgewood gray kitchen. I'm looking for a color palette that looks like I know what I am doing..lol. Thank you so much for the inspiration. (from one Chicagoan to another) Sharyn
All my trim/wainscoting/crown moulding is white, cabinets are white, furniture is cherry, floor is light oak throughout. 1500 SF - large rooms. »
Sharyn @maryneat. I have white trim, and as beautiful as it is, it is a major upkeep. I wipe, clean, repaint constantly. It shows dust and grime immediately. So heed warning before painting white. To paint over the oak, you would have to sand and prime. If you're up to the task, I would suggest re-staining over painting. Maybe a richer tone on the oak will update your look. A picture of the trim might help with ideas too.
Emily Hurley I clicked through to his website and it looks like the kitchen is nearby, as there is one photo that shows a kitchen eating area with the living room shown here in the background. There is another view of the dining room here though that shows a stairway directly behind it. Seems like it is sort of diagonally situated from the kitchen?
Diane Gordon_Hattel The Benjamin moore site is very deceiving. I picked a color off Houzz for a room, even though the BM site had it looking icky. the color I chose was exactly the color in Houzz however.
3. Simple and spacious in Chicago. Blue was a popular color for dining rooms on Houzz this year, including this traditional space. Contrasting white paint draws attention to the trim's details, adding another element of interest.
