Rosenberg Kolb Architects
Rosenberg Kolb Architects is proud to announce our renovation of a 1747 timber frame house on Nantucket Island, completed in 2011. The first historic renovation project in Nantucket to receive LEED Gold status. The project was given a Grand Award by Eco Home Magazine in July, 2011.
The project included:
Restructuring the foundations to align and stabilize the structure in addition to providing for a new insulated crawl space;
A 260 square foot addition for a kitchen, bath, and new entry;
New cedar shingles, roof shingles, and restored historic windows;
The house met the strict regulations of Nantucket's Historic District.
On the inside, LEED Gold certification was met through:
High R-value insulation and reduced air leakage;
High efficiency heating, air conditioning, plumbing fixtures, and appliances;
Low-emission paints and finishes as well as a clay wall finish;
Using reclaimed materials from the original house and other sites.
The project has been published in:

From foundation pour to welcome home pours, we loved every step of this residential design. This home takes the term “bringing the outdoors in” to a whole new level! The patio retreats, firepit, and poolside lounge areas allow generous entertaining space for a variety of activities.
Coming inside, no outdoor view is obstructed and a color palette of golds, blues, and neutrals brings it all inside. From the dramatic vaulted ceiling to wainscoting accents, no detail was missed.
The master suite is exquisite, exuding nothing short of luxury from every angle. We even brought luxury and functionality to the laundry room featuring a barn door entry, island for convenient folding, tiled walls for wet/dry hanging, and custom corner workspace – all anchored with fabulous hexagon tile.

Southern Living
For the interiors, Matthew wanted to create a look appropriate for a remote Southern getaway, but nothing too sleepy. He started with a traditional foundation composed of classic American and English wood antiques, mellowed Oriental rugs, grids of framed prints, and Colonial portraits crowned with museum-style brass picture lamps. GenStone Products
"I purchased GenStone for a small area on my home that was exposed after tearing off my rotten wrap around deck. I was unsure how to cover up the exposed foundation as well as how to deal with the rotten siding that was exposed now the deck was gone. My wife wanted to do stone which I could have done but was not looking forward to the added time to this project. GenStone was the perfect solution! It looks great added an insulating value to my foundation. Any DIYer should consider this over actual stone." -- Michael

The master bedroom's open concept bathroom features fixtures by WETSTYLE (tub, vanity, sink and mirrored cabinet). The BE Collection tub and sink were produced using WETSTYLE special bio-based composite material.
The owner, Sabine Karsenti, with the collaboration of the Ecologia foundation and
her designer Gervais Fortin, had the objective to reduce to a minimum her ecological footprint
by using healthy, local and little polluting materials.
The team demonstrated that it’s possible to build an ecological house without sacrificing the contemporary design. All the materials were hand-picked from the most ecoresponsible supplier’s of Quebec.

Kitchen Craftsmen
Remember the gorgeous Scandinavian-style kitchen transformation we completed for the Ferguson family recently? We promised we would be sharing more, and here it is!
In addition to the über cool modern kitchen, the team at Kitchen Craftsmen also worked to create an outdoor space perfect for entertaining, from summer BBQs to winter nights enjoying a wine. Using distinctive Polytec ‘Black Wenge Matt’ for the doors, and the same durable Polytec ‘Graphite Grey Createc’ cabinetry that was used throughout the kitchen, this alfresco kitchen is perfect for even the messiest BBQ king. There’s even a built in wine fridge!

Beautiful basement remodel on the east side of Providence. Water mitigation was what sparked this dream. weak spots in the exterior foundation were sealed. Then we began by "facing" the exposed foundation with a sealant and concrete. A waterproof membrane was installed and capped with tongue in groove OSB, then finally finished with a water resistant laminate floor. Walls were framed to separate living area from storage. Sliding barn style doors add a nice finish while being very functional, allowing airflow and heat into the space. Now the teenagers of the house have a perfect hangout!
