You have a beautiful home! I love the sage green with the different brown tones. Very earthy :)

When we see such gorgeous high ceilings, we imagine a gorgeous staggered chandelier to really fill the space. And you have really nice light in there already, it would look beautiful not even lit. Here's some things we've done with higher ceilings.

Yes, keep your eye focused lower. I would NOT have that wall as an accent wall….it will just call attention to the angled height.

I do like your sage green, but I would suggest you do the entire room in that color.

I would put the t v over the mantel; remove the floating shelves and paint the mantel black.

Loving all the suggestions as I'm looking for a scheme for my formal lounge. Already using grey in many rooms. My kitchen units are graphite with white surfaces and lively lime green accent wall. My bathroom has an up cycled antique sideboard painted graphite with two sit-on basins, walls are soft hyacinth blue. I'm always drawn to aqua.

My Big Project next year is replacing the dull old builder's white tile in the full bathroom. The walls are gray, the tile is brown/black/gray, the shower curtain is of grays and whites and beige, very muted, but when you pull the shower curtain back...SURPRISE!...there will be turquoise glass tile and I can't wait. With this article and all the gorgeous photos maybe I should get started now!

Gina -- I remember visiting Gettysburg, PA in the late 80s with my son and late husband. We sat at one of the major monuments which overlooked an empty field. It was twilight. We watched the lightening bugs begin to appear, first a few then many. In my imagination, we were watching the campfires of the all Civil War soldiers who lost their lives there. It was very stirring and I have never thought of lightening bugs in quite the same way since.

Hi, I would suggest a round entry rug as pictures. Of course it depends the style of your house. It can be classic (as I can see your entry furniture) or modern. Use something very bold to give a nice entry impression.

Aw, stinks about the door getting caught on the thin rug. But Iconic Deco has a great idea with the rounder rug. Place it far away enough so the door won't get caught on it. :) As for furniture, maybe something a little longer that you could put pictures, a plant, lamp, maybe a place for keys...it could cover the vent too. Something like this below came to mind. But again, depends on your style!

We supplied the lighting for this space, so not sure where they got the furniture. A staggered fixture would look great by your staircase into your entry. I love how tall your ceilings are!

I am a book collector, love books, have lots. That said, I would find having them all over a little confining, just my personal feeling. Also, having all those books in areas of high traffic would likely create a lot of work in keeping them dusted, not a trivial issue in terms of dust mites, allergies, etc. I agree that adjustable shelves are more efficient and flexible but less clean lines in a modern interior. Large glass doors might soften the impact of adjustable shelving, reduce the dust problem, and still present a more modern surface design, not to mention softening the impact of so many books in general. The non-book areas inside and out create much relief and balance. Overall, I could be very happy here.

BTW, don't all the puck lights create a lot of glare when looked at from below?

Another option perhaps is to have a fixture (with any number of pendants) with a canopy long enough to cover the outlet, custom to be centered over your table. We've done a lot of projects like this with sloped ceilings as well.

Thank you Dawson & Clinton and leelee! I agree with both of you! I love the personal touch that it added. It feels almost too plain now. However, I didn't like how it would draw the eye up to the ceiling so much. I think I may play around with replacing some of my favorite items, but in a new, more subtle way.

Maybe a shelf like the one below:

you could add a mirror. I LOVE the color of your floors - I'm imagining kind of a distressed white shelf to compliment a "shabby" vintage look.

I love the window above your door - maybe a glass staggered chandelier that glistens from the light in the window when it's not on. :)

Nice entry there, and I will definitely agree with Shakuff, above. You really need a big chandelier or long ceiling lighting to make the space more bright and rich! Also, as you love the pictures, you should hang a lot of large framed ones on the wall, on stairs. A great round rug, and of course the entry console with a mirror-you can add two table lamps and a painting if you don't want the mirror. Hope you enjoy the pics and find some nice ideas for your home! jk

I have the same entryway in my house and am in the middle of decisions and doing, likewise! I think you should post whatever you come up with! Couple of addendum's to all the wonderful answers. When we moved in, there was (and still is) a huge mural on the wall (largest one of course). I love it. Wasn't sure I would keep it but it is a countryside scene we have all become attached to, so it stays. Since it has several shades of green, we have incorporated those colors into what we change now and then.
However, as an aside, I own a small music studio that I have used large mirrors in to underscore the light and open the place up. To a man, Everyone has loved my space when they first see it. So what if it is illusion--lol!--it really changes your perception of the size and there are hundreds of ideas to temporarily decorate mirrors for seasons or holidays--as I am coming to learn! Also, I have a window above my door but I've never seen one like yours. It is terrific!! Please share pics when you get finished! I'm sure everyone here wants to see them as well!. Good luck.

I like the idea of a mirror and a small shelf to hang some keys. I like the "welcome" stencil as well. Or a nice piece of art, brightening the space.

I like how high your ceiling is, and that you can see the fixture from both levels. Definitely get a fixture that speaks to you - maybe something staggered. Since you have a window up high, it could glisten even when it isn't turned on! We've custom-made glass chandeliers for spaces very similar to yours. Here's some inspiration. :)

It's busy as is. Adding pedestals and vases would add vertical visual clutter. I might try some small artwork on the walls on either side of the entry to the room

Many lovely things in this urban home. Love the touches of red. Share concerns re those stairs with a young child. Curious why they replaced the wood floors with concrete but replaced tile floor on deck with wood. Doubt it will hold up with Boston weather. Looks like it is already showing wear.

Great design....I could see a inspiring red mosaic backsplash in kitchen to add a little detail....maybe one of the bath rooms too.

This (copy of a) Noguchi table combines wood and glass without looking heavy. Nice organic shape:

I just did a bedroom with dark grey walls. Because it is a neutral, I thought it was a nice backdrop for the flea market style we were aiming for. I did do an accent wall with mint and white stripes to brighten it up and added little pops of color by sprinkling here and there...Have fun! :)

How about a capiz or sparking backsplash that picks up the white, tan and silver?

Wow...I'm in love with that bedspread.
If you don't find a source, they kind of reminds me of our Cocoon pendants!

You have a beautiful room! I think some art (not mirrors, especially since your tables are mirrored) would be great in filling that space, like kimedge suggested. Maybe play up that pale aqua with some shades of blue or turquoise? Definitely get some color in lampshades for those lovely tables!

Love everything you have so far! May I suggest wallpaper for the headboard wall? There is some fabulous paper out there.

I too like your drapes. Very light and airy, and they still let some light in. I would say lower the fixture a little if you're going to keep it. Or if you want to change that out, maybe add a pop of color. All depends on the aesthetic you're going for. :)

Have you thought about maybe a rug?

Wow - these are all so inspiring. That French Country sideboard has my heart soaring!

This is one of our favorite entryways that we custom-made a fixture for. It was all about highlighting the high ceilings for them. :)

Shakuff, the light fixture does draw the eye upward.
We have a fancy chandelier in our entry that I liked, but it certainly doesn't do the same. Our beautiful high ceilings could do with some highlighting.

Our entry is not finished. On one side is our early 19th century trimeau (mirror surrounded/topped by a painting) and the other is a low bench with great frame and zebra fabric. But it doesn't have enough presence yet.
Would love to add that pond in front. Sigh...
