What a beautiful room! I love all the wood trim.

The pendants, if you don't find a source, are very similar to our Shablool pendants. Since they're custom-made from blown glass, they can be made in a frosty or milk color like they are in the picture, and however many or few pendants your space needs!

My favorite aspect of this entire home is that so many dents, scratches, out-of-level and other character 'flaws' were left un-repaired (like the cat chair) and yet the place looks anything but gross and nasty. Not everyone wants to live in luxurious, high-end environments. This is my favorite ideabook to date!

I love the grey! Grey is great because it will go with any color pop. A metallic side table and/or mirror are good neutral basics as well so it's all about the color pop (I'd definitely add some colorful pillows and a rug in a fun pattern). I like what you're doing now with the hints of yellow. It looks great against the grey.

Shannon - might I suggest from looking at the more modern lines and neutrals in the dining elements, that you take off the formal chamfered panel molding from your wainscot, and instead place board and batten trim in its place, then give the entire thing a coat with a warm off-white instead of the blinding white that is there now? Unless the kitchen has white cabinets that are that blue / white tone, a warmer off-white (ben moores maritime white?) would complement your things better. Trim adjustment to more classic would be my preference too, but that change is up to you. No trim at all would be a better look imho for your things. Love the navy, do think art is your most important step as is selecting just one accent tone to focus on. Yellow is out since you have the linen toned things. Red would be delightful in small doses and great in the kitchen. Green might be your thing. I would be tempted to look for fabric that incorporated a print that I liked on cream for the windows and make a roman shade to hang at the ceiing for over the kitchen sink. http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/oc-5

I like the lighting, the rectangular shape does indeed add some symmetry which is great - and I think the brick wall glams it up! I think the cream baguette will be nice with the brick too.

if you're want to go for SUPER glam, maybe something more white and/or sparkly. Definitely glam and adds some nice contrast against the brick. :) Some of our custom-made glass lighting could work in that sense.

Just a thought!

My hubby is the real collector of nature's gifts. He used to love walking in the woods and he always spotted a treasure, a beautiful walking stick, piece of bark, something he found joy in. One of us found this lovely rock and it has special meaning to us because it is shaped like Virginia, but when flipped over it looks like North Carolina. Special to us because we have lived in both states.

Hello Joan,

Thank you very much for sharing your story. Sounds like you are having fun working on your farm house. And yes it is a lot of work. I spent a year and and half working on a friends farm house in West Chester PA. It was a lot of fun and that experience has inspire some of the images from the OLD WORLD series.

I love the idea of a large beautiful vintage wardrobe. To tell you the truth I have been looking at a few. Growing up in South America my families home there were wardrobe in in all of the bedrooms. It seems I am coming full circle.

I hope that one day you will share you farm house on HOUZZ.

Thanks again!

Oh man, I think you have a lot of choices. Grey is neutral, so any accent color would really shine. Just depends on how vibrant you wanna go ;)

As far as green, something like a Sage would look nice I think: http://st.houzz.com/fimgs/60c2b7cf0284c0ba_1805-w564-h376-b0-p0--home-design.jpg

Or a beautiful teal or navy also came to mind when I was looking for inspiration, especially with the wood floors you have: http://olpos.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/cool-bedroom-with-skylight-blue-accent-wall-mural.png

Or purple? Your possibilities are endless with grey really, pardon me for being all over the color wheel :P http://cdnpix.com/show/imgs/9362d6978a5bec083968a2e46ce1d25c.jpg

Gray & Walter...I absolutely love everything in that phgotograph!! Wow!

Kara...What a lovely set you have from your Grandmother!! First off...I'd never paint it! The wood is lovely and can be treated to bring out all the grain & make it pretty again.

To me...this piece cries out for something period and since you have a 150-ish year old home, I'm seeing a pretty tapestry fabric.

Here are just some I found on a google image search: I could see any one of these on that set!

I love furniture with character. This set has it in spades! Refurbish it to your tastes. It will be a savings over buying new...but not by much. Do it because a piece like this needs to show off and it needs to do it everyday. Pick what you like and love the piece. Some day in the future someone else will do the same again. That's the fun of "great" pieces. A bit of TLC and they are ready to go for another 50 years!

Mmm... I think I just learned to relax about things a bit. One thing stays true though: We are not pigs! And we will not live like pigs either! So be clean and neat please. I'm not saying be an obsessive compulsive cleaner but do your best for everyone's sake.
At the beginning of our marriage me and my husband swapped irritations with each other and since then he has diligently been putting the toilet seat down and I have made a habit of putting water in my porridge bowl should it stand for a while. We also share chores since we both work full time. I'm not going to get home every night and spend 3 hours cleaning after a hard days work. Like wise for him. So it had to be a team effort.

We have a pact. He drives, I cook. I don't tell him how to drive (except when he jumps a red light) and he stays the other side of the kitchen while I cook. This is not only because it's a very small kitchen and he's a big man (why do men take up MORE space than you would think possible?) but because most of my life I have had the kitchen to myself. I once told him that I drove this bus.... but loved his company. There are kitchen tasks he does while making tea (his job in the morning while I get those last precious five minutes of sleep) - emptying the dishwasher, filling water bottles and the ice tray, taking out the trash, folding the washing.... and I know a lot of men who DON'T help round the house. So it is nice to have him do all this. Just so long as he doesn't get under my feet while I'm making dinner!

How do you change a bulb in these lights or do you not?

Sandy, you can change the bulbs in our Shablool pendants but just clicking them in and out the top. As far the pendants in the above photo, it looks like the pendants can most likely move up the wire until the bulb is exposed. :)
