nitpicker Frankly that space scares the hell out of me. I see that the ladder is anchored via a rail, but the prospect of a slip means minimally hitting and possibly flipping over the bannister rail. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen. I'd never even considering letting anyone on that ladder. Using one hand, with the other reaching for a book of most sizes changes the center of gravity of a person. Anything other than perfection is asking for a two story disaster. In my view I'd expect more in the way of safety--certainly more in the manner of design..
Siemasko + Verbridge Thank you for your concern NITPICKER. As much as we value your opinion about the design we want to reassure everyone that this design is code compliant, and all safety measures were met. The ladder is mostly decorative, but does help achieve getting the books on the very top shelf. In the end the client is happy, adores the space, and uses it frequently.

eCustomFinishes Well done!!! Love the use of salvaged material to make this home absolutely beautiful. Likewise we recently hand painted some boats on our salvaged wood bedroom dresser & salvaged wood coffee table, also for customers in the north shore of MA. Its [salvaged] boating season!!!

cluelessintheyard The hull is a great element. This may be sacrilege to boaters but I'm no fan of highly lacquered mahogany in this application. I understand the practicality but the red tones and high gloss fight with the tones and weathering of the hull piece. Are those white subway tiles as backsplash? They don't relate to the other elements at all.
