I think it depends on the needs of each family. If you need fewer lockers for fewer kids, they can be a bit wider.

I'd measure the width and depth of the things you anticipate putting in there and see if you can accomodate that times the number of family members you have. For me the challenge would be school bags and / or big baseball bags.
