Gear Up for Gardening
These tools and supplies help your landscape look great in more ways than one
OK, so now that you've placed your potting bench in a perfect spot, you're probably itching to pick up some bags of soil and some plants from the nursery. But first you need to get your gear together. Here are some tools of the trade to get your started. Some are must-haves, while others are a bit more luxurious. Regardless, I hope this ideabook will help you get your shopping list together.
Hard-Working Potting Benches
Hard-Working Potting Benches
English Pot
Of course, a potting bench is not a potting bench without pots. You'll want to stock up on them for your container gardens.
Bird Blue Garden Gloves
While they won't perfectly preserve a manicure, they will save you hours of scrubbing your nails.
Thoughtful Gardener Trowel Fork Set
If there's a second tool you'll need, it's a fork. This pair is sold as a set.
Tool Rack
You'll need a place to put your tools. If your potting bench has a wall behind it, a tool rack is a great way to keep organized and save space.
Iron Faucet Wall Hooks
This rack adds whimsy and will hold any tool that has a loop attached to its handle.
Galvanized Waterfall Can
You'll need some portable water for your plants, so a watering can is a must. This one will look especially attractive on your potting bench.
Cascata Rain Water Collection and Storage System
Speaking of water, conserving it is important. Collect your gardening water the old-fashioned way with this rain barrel.
Adjustable Rake
No matter the weather or the time of year, here in Atlanta there is a constant cacophony of dueling leafblowers. They blow leaves from one side of the yard to the other so that the wind can blow them back within hours (it's downright Sisyphean), they blow pollen around and make it worse, and I've even seen people using a leaf blower on dirt in the street. For the love of peaceful quiet, please get a rake instead. Diatribe over.
Ergonomic Weeder
This tool is very helpful when weeding and again, will help save your fingernails some wear and tear.
MVP Complete Compost Bin, Large
This is how you can make the best soil yourself and keep food waste and weeds from going down the disposal or into the landfill.
Jackson M6T22 6 Cubic Steel Tray Contractor Wheelbarrow
This comes in handy for getting your soil, mulch and plants from your potting bench or car to the garden beds.
Dramm Colorstorm Garden Hose
Hoses come in a ton of fun colors these days; if you're in the market for a new one, why not try a bright hue that will be easy to spot when you leave it lying across the lawn? Have some fun with it and match it to your pots or shutters.
Deluxe Garden Hose Cart
This cart is a good way to keep the hose corralled while still being able to transport it around the yard.
Garden Trug
Trugs are great for toting tools out to garden beds, and for carrying your produce and cut flowers back to the house.
Västlig Gardening Bag
These are great for collecting weeds and deadheads and carrying them over to the compost pile or yard waste container.
These items let you stay one step ahead of the weather, and they are simply beautiful out on the bench or even around the house when not in use.
Garden Labels
Be sure to cut those tacky plastic labels off your plants after you've planted them. If you want to keep track of names, invest in some cute labels like these.
Garden Seat/Kneeler
A seat is useful when working a little higher up or when you need to take a break.
Gardener's Tool Time Gift Set
A tote full of tools and seeds is a great way to go portable when you need to wander from the bench to the garden.
Mr. McGregor Gift Set for Children
Encourage budding gardeners with a space at the bench plus a set of gardening tools or a gardening set like this one.
