12 Step Program for Any Home Improvement Project
While I have been in the stone and tile industry for more years than I care to admit, I have been a serial remodeler even longer than that.
Before HGTV, before 18% mortgage interest rates (and 3% interest rates), before “flipping” was all the rage, dare I say before any decent house cost in the six digits, I was buying old houses and fixing them up. Or as my husband would say, I would buy them and hand them over to him to make it happen.
What you need to keep in mind is that whatever you are doing, IT IS AN INVESTMENT, and you need to view it in that light no matter what. It is too easy to be drawn to the cheapest solutions and, if you look around your fixer-upper, aren’t cheap finishes the the exact reason you are trying to upgrade?
These tips apply whether you are planning a small project or a large project, whether it is interior or exterior.

3. And that is why you need to get referrals and a qualified, experienced contractor. Ask friends and neighbors about a referral for a contractor for your project. Everyone who owns a home has had an experience, good or bad. Talented contractors can make suggestions on how to accomplish the look you want.
12. And savor the finished product. Remodeling in your home is about more than finding the best deal, it is about achieving your goal, which is a spectacular room for you and your family to enjoy for years to come.
