William Hill Cawood, Architect you could printout the picture and use the height of the built in counter, which would generally be in the 30" to 36" range and get an estimate on the overall height, which would relate to the width. you could also look at the doors--if they are between 6'8" to 7', and then the transom is around 1'2 to 1' 4", then you have a roughly 8' to top of built in.
Beautiful great room! I love this house, and we are using many of the features in our design in NC. We are designing our great room very much like this one, and we have 9' ceilings. We are adding a wood-burning fireplace so our builder has told us that the mantle will need to be "taller" than most. Is the fireplace in this photo wood burning or gas? I'm just trying to get a feel for scale. Thank you so much for your time. »
Elaine Neumann Beautiful room. Can you please tell me about the drapery rod I have the same window situation in my living room. The area is totally private so I have never covered the windows but now I think I want linen shears on them. However, the window is so large that I'm told that because of the weight of the drapery I would have to use a motorized curtain rid. But I don't think I would like that look. I really like what you have done with this drapery. Can you tell me how it works? Thanks very much. Elaine
What are the dimensions of the fireplace and the surround i.e. the length and height of the mantel, the width of the columns on each side of the fireplace? We love this design and plan to create a similar look in our family room, but we would also like to have a raised fireplace. Do you have any suggestions on keeping this look, but having a raised fireplace, with or without a hearth? »
Paul Moon Design Surround is about 11", and mantle is about the same. You can do a raised hearth about 12" off the ground but you will need high ceilings to have room for a painting above
Katie Louw Thanks the surround and mantel measurements, it looks like the fireplace opening is about 36"-42", the width of the craftsman details are 7 and a half feet wide, the trim pieces are four inches wide and the heighth of the mantel from the floor is 60". i want to get the proportions right, since we might need to shrink our fireplace plan down to six feet wide.
How far the wall does the fire place and book case needs to be. My living room is not very big? - How far from the wall does the fire place and book case needs to be? »
Lovely room. Any ideas on how to address similar units on either side of the fireplace - I have a fireplace with a log butner inside, The actual depth of the fireplace is pretty small (most of it is outside) - perhaps 10cm. The hearth is a further 20cm. I am looking to have cupboards and shelves on either side of the fireplace, but the cupboard depth needs to be a minimum 40mm, preferably 50am - but that would mean that the sides would be out further than the fireplace+hearth.
I have useless spatial recognition and am no good at design, so all helpful ideas more than welcome! »
This home is beautiful! Please tell me about the cabinet hardware in the kitchen and family room. - Are they oil-rubbed bronze? Do you know the manufacturer and style #s? Thank you!!! »
Is the portion with the painting on it a matte finish or is it all gloss/semi gloss? - I have the same front room now and we are finishing the painting...I was recommended to use a matte finish on the wall portion above the fireplace to match the in between the coffered ceiling parts....any thoughts. All of the wood on mine is a gloss of some sort. »
This room looks so peaceful and relaxing. I like the simpleness of it and the simple colors are perfect. I think i would add a little yellow pillows or something to match with the painting to give it a little more detail. I think the time period is Craftsman because of how simple the room is.
