sierraimwalle one more question.. are you suggesting we put a stile on the left and right and also put a rail down the middle? You aren't suggesting to do anything at the bottom correct?
S.A.N Design Group, Inc. I didn,t do the floors. I am only a cabinet maker. However from my observations, the floor is oak but the stain I am not sure of!
How did you get the seam to disappear so smoothly? - When the bench is closed - it looks so well hidden - I can only see the seam on the front b/c I know where to look. Is it that smooth in person - or is this more in the photography? What kind of cut/edge is used?
Looks beautiful by the way »
S.A.N Design Group, Inc. I made the seem to be 3/16" when its closed. In person, it is really smooth looking. I also do think the lighting and the picture has a lot to do with the seem being so smooth as well! Thanks for the compliment.
S.A.N Design Group, Inc. This window seat was custom built by me. I do custom cabinetry. Are you from the New York Metropolitan area? If so, then maybe we can discuss a project you would like to do? Let me know. Thanks!
minihorse Go to www.leevalley.com or call 1-800-267-8767 for their beautiful hardware catalog. There are a number of lid supports that let a bench or toy box lid down slowly, on page 137. This is a Canadian company that sources top quality tools and cabinet hardware world wide. They will mail you the tools or hardware catalogs, or both, free.
galejeweldean I love these window seats, I had them in my old house and was a great storage for big bulky items. We're redoing a room that is. Ow basically
For a more elegant look, try a natural fiber blend, like jute/chenille or sisal/wool. The rug under this couch looks like a sisal/wool blend, which provides the durability of sisal with the warmth and softness of wool.
Do you have a bay window in your dining room, bedroom or family room? Consider adding a hinged window seat into the bay and have the seat hinged to take advantage of all that space inside. Or add drawers or doors for access to the storage without moving cushions. It's a great place to tuck away extra pillows and blankets.
11. Plan your storage carefully. Make use of every nook and cranny. I could do several ideabooks just on the topic of storage alone. But these two basic guidelines will help you plan storage that helps you clean up in a hurry.Put storage near the place where the items to be stored are actually used. This window seat storage is handy for holding extra lap blankets for the sofa. If this is a family room, games or toys might go in here. This would be much closer than a hall closet halfway across the house. Locate your most often used storage where it is easy to reach. Although cabinets or closets that run all the way to the ceiling do make use of space, if you have to drag a step stool out to put things away, it will slow you down. Save those high cabinets for items rarely used.
