The remodel of this mid-century ranch house in an established Aspen neighborhood takes the opportunity to reuse sixty percent of the original roof and walls. Raising the roofline and adding clerestory windows and skylights flood the living spaces and master suite with natural light. Removing walls in the kitchen, living room and dining room create a generous and flowing open floor plan. Adding an entire wall of exterior glass doors to the centralized living room.

what brand is the outdoor furniture. thank you, Lil »
what is the floor material are they honed slabs? - I am going to build a similar patio and love the clean and elegant look of the floor which i would like to replicate exactly. »
ROWLAND BROUGHTON ARCHITECTURE & URBAN DESIGN Thank you for your question. I am sure you could install them on a system that would allow them to raise and lower, but these heaters are stationary and do not go up and down.
ROWLAND BROUGHTON ARCHITECTURE & URBAN DESIGN Thank you for your question, the heaters definitely come in handy during our winters! The heaters are from Sunpak.
What's the dimension of this patio - Would you give me the exact square footage of this patio in addition to to what material is the floor made out of and what type of wood is used. Is this a glass enclosure wall? »
ROWLAND BROUGHTON ARCHITECTURE & URBAN DESIGN Thank you for your question!! The patio is about 520 square feet, the flooring is a white polished concrete, the stone is a local cut limestone, and the wood is a stained fir.
ROWLAND BROUGHTON ARCHITECTURE & URBAN DESIGN Correct, it is a single story ranch with a rooftop patio that is accessed by the exterior spiral stair. By working with the homeowner to identify this goal early on, we could detail the house to structurally support the roof deck from the beginning. It is basically a flat concrete roof that is drained through roof drains and engineered to withstand the weight. It is a great example of working worth the homeowner early on to layout a wishlist and program for their remodel!
Gorgeoues BTW... Is it cheaper to remodel like this or build a new house? - We are making a decision right now to do a total remodel of a ranch or build an up to date one on another site. I was wondering what is the more economical way to go. Thanks in advance »
Polished Concrete Question - I'm building a house in Toronto; I really like the look of this polished concrete and wondering if you know if it is weather friendly if done to an uncovered terrace and patio? »

love the way that the indoors transitions easily to the outside. If we could incorporate large glass doors to be able to do something like that outside the great room, that would be great.
This is the most like outdoor area. With the BBQ n sitting area all fitting nicely together. The brick on on the columns is nice. Depending on cost this can be an option for the brick work for the house.
