A simple but beautiful bathroom we designed, perfect for Airbnb guests! Clean and contemporary with just a dash of wall decor complemented by a stunning gold-framed mirror. Due to the size of this space, we kept the vanity slim and sleek and the floors, tiling, and vanity a refreshing white color. The upper walls are painted in the same dark charcoal gray as the rest of the home. Designed by Chi Renovation & Design who serve Chicago and it's surrounding suburbs, with an emphasis on the North Side and North Shore. You'll find their work from the Loop through Lincoln Park, Skokie, Wilmette, and all the way up to Lake Forest.

By using darker tones and textures on components such as floors and vanities and lighter colors such as whites on doors, windows and ceilings, a space can help guide the user, dissecting and ornamenting what is important. Thus, by designing with purpose, a greater level of sophistication is achieved.

Quonset Hut Village: Live/Work

Custom Quonset Huts become artist live/work spaces, aesthetically and functionally bridging a border between industrial and residential zoning in a historic neighborhood. The open space on the main floor is designed to be flexible for artists to pursue their creative path. Upstairs, a living space helps to make creative pursuits in an expensive city more attainable. The two-story buildings were custom-engineered to achieve the height required for the second floor. End walls utilized a combination of traditional stick framing with autoclaved aerated concrete with a stucco finish. Steel doors were custom-built in-house.

Brick Veneer Exterior Wall

When dealing with constraints such as small square footage and limited sunlight, it can be challenging to create dynamic lightning that penetrates and invites the user to a space. By adding a cool gray tone such as the brick veneer wall, it can immediately activate a room. With relief to the wall, it brings contrast to the existing white walls within the space, as well as making components such a white single hung window pop. This in turn, creates a significantly more dynamic and enriching space, transforming a place of once simple function to that of enjoyment and leisure.

When we replaced the windows throughout the house, we reclaimed all the original oak trim, pulling out the nails, stripping off the varnish, and ultimately, giving the old wood new life by crafting it into wall-to-wall cabinetry and an elegant vintage-inspired vanity. The construction process was hands on: demolition uncovered a few quirks and offered the opportunity to add insulation, HVAC and electrical (previously, there was not a single outlet in the room.) We pulled up the linoleum floor and discovered a relatively spotless maple floor, which we scraped and refinished. photography by tylermallory.com
