The front screened porch is a pragmatic transition from the landscape to the house during mosquito season. However this porch was designed for a more poetic service: it is a "Thunderstorm viewing porch." It is an exhilarating place to watch the afternoon storms come across the marsh. Noisy too: first the thunderclaps then a hard (but brief) tropical rain on the tin roof. Again the exposed timber structure is a nod to the local dock builders and the Everglades & Sea Islands national park construction. ©2014 felix day pretsch
