In this room, the vertical wood adds height to the ceiling, continuity with the ceiling, and beautifully creates the fireplace focal point. If the wood were horizontal on the wall, it simply would lose the impact.

This is a guess, but it looks like a metal surround. We are looking for a FP surround and our designer gave us info on the metal but I can't find the details. Look under Ion at Ann Sacks. Good luck!
love the richness of this--i think the surround is tile. u can do a spin off of this where we tile the surround and use hi gloss dark paint on the sides and cool alabaster lites
