Heydt Designs Window companies like Marvin, Andersen, and Sierra Pacific (the company we used) make circular windows in standard sizes. The smaller window is 2'-0" in diameter, and the larger one is 2'-8" in diameter. Hope that helps!
Beautiful Home! I would like to know if you could recommend a modular building company ? - Do you know of a modular home building co. that builds this style house? I'm hoping to build a zero lot subdivision and need to cut costs. I think the houses would be 1800-2,300 sf. Thank you »
Heydt Designs I don't personally know of one, but I could ask around. This home is very custom in nature, so I think if you did use a modular builder, you'd still have to have a local craftsman detail out the finishes and once you do that, I'm not sure if you would cut costs. Nevertheless, I'll see if I can get a good recommendation for you. Best! Leigha
Heydt Designs It's just a basic high gloss black- Benjamin Moore's ready mix black to be specific, but should be the same for other makers. Thanks for checking first! Sorry for the delay in reply.
Heydt Designs There is no photo of the rear facade. The exterior of the house is extremely close to the rear yard property line and almost impossible to photograph. Also, due to the particular nature of the remodel, the exterior design at the rear didn't really change much from the original.
Double vanity - Hi there! Could someone tell us where we could find the double vanity that is in this home? Also, we love the orange shower curtain that is in this bathroom as well. Any ideas of where we could purchase that as well? Thanks so much for your help and time - Christina »

Heydt Designs We purchased the stone from Bay Area Bluestone. It was a bluestone called ‘Lilac’ and we ordered it in the Random Ashler Pattern. It was 1.5" thick and at the time it cost about $8.50 p.s.f. Here is the link from the website: http://www.bayareabluestone.com
The porch flooring was clear cedar 2x4 T&G decking. Proper installation on that is essential, otherwise the boards will warp.
Heydt Designs It is a pre-finished product by Navarre, the color/finish is 'Montauban'. It's distressed oak. Here's the link: http://www.usfloorsllc.com/products-page/navarre/montauban/ We used the same product throughout the entire house. Hope that helps! Leigha
Heydt Designs Yes! Good eye. It is a laminate composition shingle (aka asphalt shingle) in a dark Charcoal Grey color, like this one. http://www.certainteed.com/products/roofing/residential/308956# The equivalent color would be 'Moire Black'. Best of luck!
Heydt Designs They are Western Red Cedar shingles stained in a color to match a Benjamin Moore's paint color 'Stone 2112-40' The trim is painted in Benjamin Moore's 'White Dove'. These colors are also listed in the photo tags. Hope that helps! Leigha

Porch Ballistrade railings - Hello, I love the ballistrade railings on the front porch. Who was the manufacturer for this - or was this custom made? Do you have other close up pictures of the details? »
Heydt Designs Sorry, we don't. The back of the house is really close to a rear lot line and impossible to photograph because of it's proximity to the rear neighbor. We put all of the design emphasis into the front of the house because of this.
Fabulous Job! - What a beautiful home. Would you happen to know the roof shingle color and manufacture? Just love the whole color combination from roof top to sidewalk! »
Heydt Designs Thank you! I don't recall the exact shingle manufacturer or name, but it was just a very basic, very inexpensive, Class A composition shingle in a Charcoal Grey color. CertainTeed is a common manufacturer of these types of shingles. Best of luck, Leigha.
Heydt Designs It was manufactured by Trustile. They are a wonderful resource for designing and ordering customized doors and sidelights. Their website has a wonderful door design tool. Here's the link. http://www.trustile.com Best of luck to you with your project! Leigha
Heydt Designs The exterior shingle color is Benjamin Moore 'Stone 2112-40' and the exterior trim color is Benjamin Moore 'White Dove'. The top and bottom levels are all stained the same color. The foyer bench column to the right of the front porch is clad in gray stone (barely visible in this photo), so that portion appears darker than the rest of the shingles. Stain colors fade quickly, and appear lighter in natural light, which is why the color appears lighter in this photo. Best of luck! Leigha
Heydt Designs Thank you so much. I am not selling the drawings for this home as-is, but I would be happy to work with you on an individual basis, incorporating many elements. If you are interested in discussing this further, please email me at leigha@heydtdesigns.com. Thanks!
Information needed - Hi
You did a great job. I am planning to build a house in Menlo Park,ca about the same size of this beutifull house you designed. Could you please let me know how much is the cost to Designe a house like this and what does it include I mean what details?
Regards »
Heydt Designs Typical architectural fees for a project like this should be between 10-20% of the construction budget. The work should include a lot of architectural details, as well as work in all the major architectural phases such as schematic design, design development, construction documents, bidding and negotiation, and construction administration. Although, I don't feel comfortable disclosing the precise amount for the sake of my client's confidentiality, I can say that the fees for this project did end up being on the higher end of that spectrum. If you email me, we can discuss it further. My email is leigha@heydtdesigns.com Best of luck with your project! Leigha
Heydt Designs It's a natural veneer stone product I found at Bay Area Bluestone. http://www.bayareabluestone.com The names of these products change frequently. At the time it was referred to as 'Castle Rock,' not to be confused with the manufactured products of this name. The color was referred to as 'Chocolate.' You can't see it in this photo but we also clad the column to the right of the front door in this stone to break up the shingle siding. Hope this helps! Leigha
tulsagal Thank you for the reply. Yes, I like the stained better too. I think I'll take the gamble on staining it this first application and see how it goes.
Heydt describes the new style of the home as having Craftsman shingle style and Spanish colonial influences outside, with contemporary elements inside. This home doesn't have much of a backyard, so the owners treat their front yard like a backyard. In addition to the front porch on the left, there is a patio off the kitchen on the right.
1. Classic cottage in California. This cottage exterior struck a chord for Houzzers, many of whom noted the stonework and columns in their ideabooks. Readers found the simple, low-maintenance landscape appealing, too. See more of this house
This is a good example of nice movement framing the home. The camera is parallel to the house, but the center point is more to the right. The photo feels balanced by the strong vertical of the center tree.
