6,785 Contemporary Storage & Closets Design Photos

Even though your closet is often an afterthought, storage options are now nearly as wide as your home furnishing choices. It used to be all about the poles, hooks and shelves, but today, the custom built-ins and inspirational finishes are on par with many high-end kitchens or bathrooms. Walk-in closets can now boast spinning shoe racks, lighted display cases and lounge chairs, and women finally have enough room for all their clothes and accessories. More

If you decide to revamp your contemporary closet, it's important to consider whether built-ins are in your future. Although more expensive, shop-built and installed components are more durable and make organizing a breeze. If you can't afford them, or maybe need more storage, consider baskets, dividers, hooks and racks to help ensure every item has a place. Finally, think about personalized extras, like a makeup vanity or tie rack, that will help you properly store your items.

Should I add built-in cabinets to my closet?

Closet organization is key; with so many shoes, ties, clothes and bags to stash, it can get messy really fast. Built-ins are a great way to ensure that each item gets put away after laundry day. Organizers in the can build custom-sized cabinets that are perfectly fit for particular items. They can even build shoe racks, rotating tie racks, purse display cases or pull-out drawers for smaller accessories or shirts. It's the best way to get what you want, so if you continuously have trouble finding things in your space, it might be a worthy investment.

How do I organize my closet?

If custom cabinets aren't enough, or if you can't afford them, you can always create your own organizing tools. There are hundreds of custom organizers to help with the process, everything from hooks to bins to drawer partitions. Evaluate your space, figure out your trouble spots and browse our product database for potential solutions. Baskets and bins are great for storing things like belts and scarves, while shelf dividers keep sweaters, jeans and shirts in line.

What extras should I put in my closet?

If you're looking for luxury, try including a small sitting area with either a window seat, ottoman or lounge chair. It can work as a great getaway from everyday life and can also come in handy when putting on those pesky high heels or boots. Or liven up your morning routine by adding your own makeup vanity, complete with a jewelry box and makeup drawer. If you need extra storage, you can always squeeze in another dresser or install an island with drawers, if you have the space. And don't forget the mirrors! Floor-length mirrors or mirrored cabinets are key in closets — after all, you want to evaluate your outfit before heading out for the day.
