Kitchen Photos

During our early designs, the owners expressed interest in adding solar panels. Being in a subdivision, the home was oriented at an odd angle and not one conducive for gathering the rays of the sun, Furthermore, tall trees to the south cast shade over the home for much of the day. Still, in drawing out the lines of an ideal orientation for solar electricity, the owners fell in love with the cardinal coordinates—north, south, east, and west—running through their home. So that’s what the 3 Lights Design team did, create a balance between the existing layout and the new elements reflecting cardinal coordinates. In this way, the new structure becomes like a sacred compass, orienting visitors to the 4 direction of the world. Open Barker Modern pantry. Note that a heat shield has been added to the left and above the toaster oven. It plugs into the shown wall outlet while in use. This is a sturdy and very heavy pantry. The two Ikea handles mounted vertically work well to pull it open.

A retired teacher and grandmother, our client raised her family in this Valley view home. With amazing potential for an enhanced territorial view, this project had been on our client’s mind for quite some time. She was very particular in selecting us as her design and build team. With deep roots in her community, it was important to her that she works with a local community-based team to design a new space, while respecting its roots and craftsmanship, that her late husband had helped build.
