Designs by Vincenza, inc. I love repurposing items that are thought to be of no good, or unattractive. Basically I took an old glass, ginger jar lamp, and redesigned the inside; a touch of paint and a new shade made all the difference in reviving this poor tired piece.

There was an odd opening that gave onto the neighbor's balcony and I turned it into a feature by framing it and hanging a beautifully carved wood panel. This created some privacy while keeping things airy and open at the same time. The neighbor gave the project a thumbs up and since this is a rental apartment, I got the OK from the property manager as long as I didn't make any holes in the walls which I managed to do! Kids' bedroom - large tropical gender-neutral kids' bedroom idea in New York

To maximize seating in this narrow space, I built a custom bench to fit the width of the balcony and I made a fold-down table that slides over the balcony wall. It's easy to pull up when you need it but it doesn't take up any room when it's down and you can always use the top part to display decorative items. I also used a stool that can double as a table and an inexpensive outdoor chair from IKEA to complete the seating area. Isabelle LaRue

A perfect pair of cobalt blue containers are the show ponies for this pool lanai area. They pick up the same color blue of the pool's accent tiles and look perfect with the aqua pool water. I custom constructed the plantings for these pots. You could never grow real plants in a shape such as this.
