This apartment had been vacant for five years before it was purchased, and it needed a complete renovation for the two people who purchased it - one of whom works from home. Built shortly after the WWII, the building has high ceilings and fairly generously proportioned rooms, but lacked sufficient closet space and was stripped of any architectural detail.
We installed a floor to ceiling bookcase that ran the full length of the living room - 23'-0" which incorporates: a hidden bar, files, a pull out desk , and tv and stereo components. New baseboards, crown moulding, and a white oak floor stained dark walnut were also added along with the picture lights and many additional outlets.
The two small chairs client's mother and were recovered in a Ralph Lauren herringbone fabric, the wing chair belonged to the other owner's grandparents and dates from the 1940s - it was recovered in linen and trimmed in a biege velvet. The curtain fabric is from John Robshaw and the sofa is from Hickory Chair.

This Philadelphia row house formerly had a second kitchen in an alcove off the den. The homeowners wanted to create a comfortable environment to work and read. Storage under the bench and in the shelving unit holds office supplies, hanging files, gift wrap, and arts and crafts supplies for the kids. Tangerine paint along back of shelves makes books and nicknacks pop. Modern swivel chairs are stylish and comfortable. Desk is made from salvaged indonesian teak with a live edge. The slab turns the corner to continue through bookcase unit for continuity and flair.

This custom kitchen is part of an adventuresome project my wife and I embarked upon to create a complete apartment in the basement of our townhouse. We designed a floor plan that creatively and efficiently used all of the 385-square-foot-space, without sacrificing beauty, comfort or function – and all without breaking the bank! To maximize our budget, we did the work ourselves and added everything from thrift store finds to DIY wall art to bring it all together.
This combination island-and-bar was the most challenging of the cabinets to design and build. It incorporates an eating area, a cabinet, and drawers for storage, with shelves to match the other cabinets. I also made the upper shelf extra deep to accommodate a full size microwave. Because of local codes, we were unable to install a full stove in a basement, so instead we purchased a high-quality hot plate and countertop oven. The hot plate can be stored in a cabinet to maximize counter space.

A fastigiate European Hornbeam hedge surrounds a gravel courtyard as a gesture to this French Eclectic style home. The simple parterre garden in the corner has a path that leads to the pool and rear yard. Prior to shearing, the hedge is very loose and soft.
