How to hide TV wires when mounting on fireplace

We are refacing our fireplace and plan to mount our tv on the fireplace, directly above the gas insert. We will have a mantle installed as well. Should I have my contractor make a hole for the wires to go through before he begins refacing the brick?

Yes go ahead and get all the wiring run before anything is refaced. Also work with your contractor to find a closet or other area to hide all of the components so they are not seen and use RF devices.

You may wish to install an empty conduit from the back of your TV into the attic or an accessible space for future connections. The images below show such a conduit from behind the TV into a hallway.

A fire rated cabinet was installed to Houzz the equipment in the hallway. The RF (radio frequency) remote control that Brickwood mentions is possible to use except with some cable/satellite boxes. A IR (infer red) repeater is available at Radio shack for $30 or less so you can use your standard remote control devices.

Yes, install a conduit/tube through which to feed the wires.
