What was the reason for changing all the windows to casement?

Wondered why they didnt keep the period style of double hung windows? I like the built in shutters too. Was that original or an addition? I'd like to see how those work.

HI Dave, the original windows had to be changed for thermic reason. I opted for french casement so as to allow more light in the house. Brownstones only have windows in the front and back so you want to let as much light in as possible. In addition, I was looking for that contemporary look while keeping most of the historical details of the house. Going for picture windows allowed me to do just that.
The shutters are original to the house. I had them stripped of the old paint and refinished with a clear mat sealer. They are working perfectly and look very nice.
