I agree that the Kingsville boxwood would be a good choice. I think they might be hard to find however. I would suggest a small Cotoneaster or Chinese elm as possibilities that might be easier to find. A Shimpaku juniper would also be nice and a little more drought resistant. Good luck, Jack

My good friend has a five-inch Cotoneaster that is in bloom right now, with berries on the branches. Very nice little plants!

Most species that are used for Bonsai can be used for mame. In most cases you want something with a smaller leaf so the proportion looks well design wise. Just remember that anything that fruits or flowers will really rob the plant of strength if you let it go overboard with that. Most keep the production of fruit/flowering to a minimum.
