how do you know if pots safe for foods ?

I remembered that sometimes they have tags 'not for food' - how do you know if there's no tags ?

    kitteh ..if the pot is thin clear plasticy material and smells like plastic..then probably is not good for food esp if u put something that is warm/hot in it.for food,stay away from anything that has BPA(which most of the bendable plastic is)how do u know if it is bpa free?thy say on it.little more money for them but thy last longtime.hope it helps

    It's a clay pot though, I've seen this tag on them before. That you should not grow plants you intend to eat in them.

    egyronin - I assumed the OP was referring to pots for GROWING food, not cooking or serving it. Hence the Container Gardening Forum.
