HAVE: Challenge: Oncidium Twinkle 'Fragrance Fantasy'

cbarry

I have 1 more Free-for-postage challenge for you- an Oncidium Twinkle 'Fragrance Fantasy'. This was a gorgeous plant until that same stupid dog got it (did I mention before that there are no more orchids at dog level in the living room bay window, only a few hanging?). This 1st picture was taken about a year ago, so this plant was at least 25% larger than shown here, when the beast got it this past Dec.

{{gwi:137210}}

I think there were 8-10 spikes. So this plant has potential. There are now 5 new leads. I think you can see a few here.

{{gwi:137211}}

It has a lily-like slightly sweet, somewhat strong fragrance, and always bloomed for me 2X/year - spring and summer.

I'm also going to throw in this Dendrobium cucullatum cutting which has a new lead just starting.

{{gwi:137212}}

And now for the challenge..."Ode to Orchids"...

While watching 'The Mind of Mencia' DH suggested that I ask for an orchid Rap or Hip-Hop song. I'm not sure how far that genre will go here, so how about any orchid lyrical piece at all. That includes a poem, a haiku, Rap/Hip-Hop of course; all of it rhyming, or not. You can 'enter' as many times as you like, and I welcome lyrical submissions even if you don't really want the plants.

C'mon people! Let's get creative!

Carolyn

Sit right back and hear my tale
My tale with no ice or snow
It started from my tiny town
On the day of an orchid show
On the day of an orchid show

We all set out for it in my car
The day dawned bright and clear
When my daughter-in-law read out her list
Her wishes for all to hear
Her wishes for all to hear

On her listed of wanted plants
A twinkle was ranked at top
From vender to vender in a twinkle search
    She never seemed to stop
    She never seemed to stop

As I looked at a paph orchid
    Up to me she ran
Look, look she cried and so I did
At the twinkle in her hand
At the twinkle in her hand

I her saw her little orchid
At the tiny flowers I looked
I knew right then I needed mine
One look and I was hooked
One look and I was hooked

The search for my twinkle than began
    We swept across the floor
    But alas to our dismay
    We couldn't find any more
    We couldn't find anymore

So here I sit in my tiny town
My life smooth except for one wrinkle
There is a void in my orchid life
That can only be filled by a twinkle
That can only be filled by a twinkle.

    I looked
My heart's beating for but a moment stopped
    I inhaled
My mind's logic was swept away in the fragrance
    I thought
There is none other which can claim to be a flower
    before me was an orchid

If this is still available I would be interested in it. I use to have one but it is no longer with me. I have 2 little dogs they do not bother my orchids but they like dig up my flower beds every year but I still keep planting them .

    Twinkle, twinkle little plant,
How I wonder when you'll grant,
    Many spikes and many blooms,
While a fragrance fills the rooms.

    Twinkle, twinkle little flowers,
How I wonder when you're ours.

    How about a limrick.

There once was a dog from New York
Who ate expensive orchids for a lark
    His master told him "No"
    He said "Go blow"
And now his home is a park.

There once was a grower of florbidium
Who wanted to try some orchidium
So he went to a show
    To learn what to grow
And returned home with an oncidium

This man needed in haste for to tinkle
His face even started to crinkle
    But he stated with pride
When his wife began to chide
    It's an oncidium Fantasy Twinkle

Here the story should wind to an end
But his wife started to unbend
    You can keep your orchidium
    Even though it's oncidium
If ten dollars to me you will lend

The man in his haste to pass water
Decided not to spend time in barter
    All right you old biddy
    He said from the privey
But next time it's only a quarter

Oh How many times must I reply to this post
Until you say that the Twinkle is mine
Oh And how many times must I reply to this post
Until for this plant I don't pine
Oh and how many times must I reply to this post
Until you get my message sublime

All I want is an oncidium
All I want is an oncidium

Oh how many orchids will be in my care
Before I say I have enough
Oh and how many orchids will be in my care
The beautiful, the old and the rough
Oh how many orchids will be in my care
Those with leaves tender or tough

All I want is an oncidium
All I want is an oncidium

    Songs, limericks, haikus, OH MY!

Oh boy, I really hate to end this thread! This has been more fun for me than I've had in a while here (excluding the stories for the other exchanges).

Do we stretch it out or end it right here? I'm not sure if my side (from laughing) or cutterpup could possibly take any more of this.

So then [drum roll], I most appreciatively tip my funny bone to cutterpup, to say that I feel that she really must have this plant. I too, recognize an obsession, and I must do all that I can to enable it!

So thank you cutterpup, and thank you all, I laughed so hard all day (and it's still going if you go back to the thread on the main discussion page).

"Will make up lyrics for orchids"

    Thank you everyone
