2nd'd saltcedar id, and yes...all viburnums are edible. Whether you consider them good or not :)

How do you tell the difference between Viburnum & Ligustrum, especially in the winter if the leaves have fallen?

In the deep South Ligustrums are evergreen, many Viburnums (not all) are deciduous.

The berries of ligustrum look nothing like that of viburnum...in color, size, shape, or how they are borne on the plant. Even web images can help.

AFAIK Viburnums have umbels while Ligustrums have panicles.
