Mushrooms

Hello all!

So I am temporarily composting in boxes and whatever else I can get my hands on (hopefully only until this weekend when my dad comes to help me build real bins!). One things I'm composting in is a Rubbermaid tote with a gazillion holes drilled into it. I keep the lid on it most of the time so it doesn't get much light and is pretty damp (probably moreso than it should be, but that's another story). I opened the lid the other night to discover some kind of weird mushrooms growing in there. I simply turned them back into the compost.

My questions are: Has anyone else had this happen? What would cause it? Should I be at all worried about it?

Unfortunately I don't know much about mushrooms (except not to eat ones that mysteriously appear in compost!).
