Ulrich Brunner Fils meets your criteria, Lux. It is healthy here, even this year when every Portland (except Jacque Cartier) decided to get rust all of a sudden, many other types got PM, and a few got novel fungi I've never even seen before at this place (most of this, thankfully, has passed). UBF stayed clean through it all. Wants to be tall but I prune it like a hybrid tea and it is fine with that. It gives long-stemmed bouquets that last quite well in a vase, nice heavy scent. Oh -- and it has no thorns!

Ulrich Brunner's a great rose. I love him. But I wouldn't call him red or mauve, hard to describe. Also, he's a big tall boy. I've seen specimens in Healdsburg over 6 feet tall so careful placement is necessary if you don't want to prune. Yes for vase life and wonderful fragrance.

Yes, Diane, I must concede that Ulrich Brunner Fils is "red" in the broadest sense of the word. HMF says deep pink or cerise. "Cerise" sounds good to me. Whatever it is, it shines like a beacon across the yard; it's not one of those dusky reds, for sure. Many years, he will reach 7' here, despite being pruned back to 3.5 - 4' in winter.
