First of all, it seems funny for me that Cardaba plantd in
the ground in zone 9 hasn't set fruit for 3 years, while
mine bloomed and set fruit in 15 months from a small pup
also in zone 9a.
From your post, I cannot find any reasons why it is so, as
it should grow very fast and easy to set fruit.

i think it could be a mix of different factors which havnt allowed my cardaba to fruit. It recieves full sun for only half the day. And i think there may be some degree of neglect on my part, watering it sparingly. And also, zero fertilizer. When, and if, it produces a pup, i'm going to plant it in a more favorable spot of the yard, where it could get plenty of water.

Where in zone 9a are you? west or east coast?

Less sunshine, sparing water, and no fetilizer!!

Yes, you better plant a pup in a more favorable place where
it can get plenty of water and full sunshine. Then I hope
you will be able to harvest in a period of less than 20
months.

Where I live is a mild place near Tokyo, Japan.
