I do know that Theodore Mead created a few popular Crinum hybrids such as "Peachblow", as for Hippeastrum, I'm not so sure.

When people talk about the "Mead" hybrids they refer to them primarily by color or by size, I haven't really ran across any names. I do know from Scott Ogden's book "Garden Bulbs For The South", he refers to "Ambiance" as a look alike to Mead hybrid that was a pass-a-long in the southern USA. I also think Mead created several of the hybrids that look similar to H. vittatum (e.x. Ambiance) that were eventually classified as "southern heirloom bulbs". There is a picture in Scott Ogdens book of a Mead hybrid but of course there isn't a name attached.

I wish I could've been more help, I'll see if I can't ask around some of my sources for more information!

No. And I'm not familiar with Nehrling at all. However, the name Mead is well known in Orlando because of Mead Gardens near Winter Park. This link might be useful.

Depending on how serious you are about getting an answer to your question I'd Goggle on Mead Gardens and see where that takes you. There is a group called Friends of Mead Gardens that might be some help. Their number is (407)599-2800.

You could also try the Orlando Sentinel archive. I noticed in the link I gave you above it mentions "The Winter Park Garden Club has been meeting in the Garden for over 50 years." Perhaps a member can help you.

I did a Google search for both of these gentlemen and found lots of information. Each has a foundation and I am sure that someone there could point you to the right person. It was interesting reading about the hybridization efforts in the early 1900s and the limitations they faced due to diseased stock.
