What kind of butterfly caterpillar was it? Can you post a photo? I have seen some monarch chrysalids that had a yellow mark on them for a couple of hours, when they first pupated, but once the chrysalis dried, it became the beautiful jade green with golden dots and 'zipper'.

This is definately a monarch. Raised the cats from eggs. 2 have this unusual marking, the 3rd is a true bright green as the one that just eclosed.

24 hours later, still has the same coloring, the other is not quite as deep a V, but above the line, it is still yellowish.

hmm...interesting. Send me a jpg of this Bobbi and I will send it off to one of the scientists. :) I know that when I've raised 'zebra' Monarch cats that the chrysalides are often a more blue than green.

Almost looks like he 'forgot' to take off his PJ's before going to bed...his stripes are still on! Sherry, let us know what the bug docs say...?
