pbyrd, 'sunburn' symptom will show up on those parts of the leaves where the exposure to sunlight has been longest; the outer leaves and on the curved area on the leaf. A contact-chemical burn will be associated with all the areas which were sprayed. You can expect damage to occur in relation to the application method - how evenly and how thoroughly the spraying was done.
Then there is damage due to the pest. I suspect that it would be mealy bugs. The effect of their activity would be to dry out the leaf; the symptom will be similar to drought.
Sunburn will be patchy and will persist until the leaf dies or is pulled.
I cannot think of an insecticide currently approved for indoor plants that will cause such effects as you describe. I would check out the label for active ingredient and rate of application and go from there.
Mealy bugs are a persistent problem and you will do well to check the plant often to 'seek & destroy'. You might use a small hand sprayer (mister) to hit them directly with a fine jet of water (add some soap). They hide in the axils of leaves and you will have to get 'up and close' or 'down and dirty' to deal with them decisively. It might be necessary to rub them off with thumb and forefinger.
But it can be done.

Corn Plants can not stand the full sun at all..Just one hour in full sun, without the chemicals, or organic pest control would of burnt them badly anyway..
