Help: Port Wine turned Tawny

The M.(!) figo "Port Wine" has been in bloom regularly this year with deep purple petals until the last two months. Now the deep purple hue has paled to almost a regular figo. Luckily the fragrance is still very strong.

Anybody know why it would "decolorize" all of sudden?

Other magnolias produce less impressive flowers later in the season, maybe that's it. Are these on new growth, instead of from overwintering buds?

These are on new growth.
I thought sun exposure had something to do with it so I moved the container to a sunnier part which did not do anything for the color, the fragrance was possibly stronger though.
