Transplant shock

Hi,

I just moved to a new house and I had to dig up my winter-hardy penerrial hibiscus "Rio Grande Red." It was in full flower.

I wrapped the roots with wet paper towels and had the plant back in the soil within an hour. I staked the stalk and wrapped the plant with breathable shade coth. I watered it and even included some hormone for transplant shock.

After 1 week it is looking dead. The buds are dark and hanging, and the leaves are all curled up.

Is it dead for good or might the roots be re-establishing themselves for next year (at the expense of this year's leaves?

Thanks for your advice!

sounds like definite transplant shock i would cut it back so that all energy goes to the roots - rather than elsewhere. Mulch it good, keep it moist, and pray......

    Hi Roseyp8255
Thank you for responding. I am a pretty good gardner, but my experience with this plant is fairly limited.
    I will take your advice!
    Eric
