Could someone tell me with the Iowa clay soil, what nutrient my english ivy may need. It isn't looking too spiffy.

Thanks for your help

Doesn't much matter...it will winter kill any how.
Don't know where you live..but in central Iowa the soil is anything but clay!

Lizzy, first off welcome to Iowa!! ;) I hope you'll like it here. Regarding English Ivy, seems to be hardy to Zone 5a, it also seems to be poisnous. A lot of places consider it an invasive weed and difficult to eradicate. Maybe you could go visit a good nursery in the area and get some suggestions for something more suitable for you zone. Good luck.

My experience with English Ivy also was gradual decline and death due to winter kill, though it was not sheltered or protected.
