pleioblastus viridistriatus and Jap Maples- compatible???

Bamboo and Japanese garden aficionados!: i was creating a new garden area in my mind today but I need your vital input. I am thinking of a small grove of Japanese maples in a sea of pleioblastus viridistriatus. Do you know if jap.maples can handle being engulfed by that wondrous running critter? This area is under a lg.silver maple; open light shade. For the past 5 yrs, it has been inhabited by 2 6'jap maples and a sea of hosta which are all doing fine.
I could plant the bamboo in pots but would not go to the bother if not necessary.
I appreciate your thoughts.
