Should I Cut Back New Green Stalks Again?

I have been transplanting irises for about two weeks and there are new green stalks growing on many of them. Should I cut back the new growth in late Autumn to help prevent iris borer? I also plan to use the Murphy's Oil Soap with Water recipe in spring for prevention as well. I am also planting about 400 dried bearded iris rhizomes that I purchased from another gardener who is moving and would appreciate any info you can provide on those as well. You can probably tell that I am a very new gardener and need as much help and advice you are willing to provide. Thank you. Jane

Stalks means flowering stems ~~ is that what you have?

I don't live in borer country (we've got every other pest) but have never heard of cutting off new foliage/leaves. What I do hear is folks removing dead/dying leaves.

A search at the bottom of the page will yield lots of information on borers. The FAQ at the top of the page has lots of basic info.

Rhizomes are planted at least 6 weeks in the ground before the first frost date. I plant, thoroughly saturate the ground, and leave them alone for a month! Then I soak the area again. You can pre-soak you rhizomes but it is not required.

Do you mean the foliage?
Don't cut off the new foliage. The plant needs its new leaves.
