I have had phlox stolonifera for years. It makes a great ground cover and forms a beautiful mat of flowers in spring. I have both pink and white, but the pink does better for me. Most of mine is in fairly heavy dappled shade under trees in our woodland garden. In spring, it gets sun before the trees leaf out. It may take a little while to form a good mat, but once it is established it spreads easily. I have to pull it out when it grows too far into the path.

I also have phlox subulata, but I agree it blooms better in full sun, although it does bloom in shade if it gets some daily sun.

As to a source in the Twin Cities, I can't help you there. I got mine from the Winter Greenhouse in Winter, Wisconsin, but they do not sell by catalog.

Well it just so happens that I had potted up 4 P. stolonifera this spring. I never put them up for sale at our Rock Garden Society sale because since they are stoloniferous, they didn't make good looking pot plants. But they are very healthy, and I could dig up more. If you're to the SW of the Twin Cities you could stop by (I am at the western edge of Hennepin County in St. Bonifacius). Or if you plan to go to the swap at Zenpotter's I could have them there.

I will not be there for the swap but plan to drop off some stuff before hand for all of you. My Phlox stolonifera are a bright pink-magenta and may be the cultivar Home Fires.

I have not seen them locally, but have not been looking for them, specifically. Bluestone Perennials sells one, and I have never had a bad experience ordering from them.
