I actually planted several last Fall under my walnut tree, where it is presently fighting the good fight with Dutchman's pipe, Kerria, Rubus, and Yellow Archangel, and I have no regret whatsoever.

Well, it makes weeding smell good! I wish I could say I regret it, but sometimes it is the only thing that is flourishing in my garden (like right now, since I've been sick and neglecting things). I inherited mine. Unfortunately I'm not a fan of the mint taste. I only use it occasionally for tabouleh, some italian or other mediterranean style salads, and a spring or two in lemonade drinks. I have a TON of it dried, from deadheading. If I was crafty and creative I could do cool things with it. But as it is, I just consider it "better than nothing" in my yard. Occasionally it gives me some pleasure to play with it.

There's a neat trick to prevent the spread and that's to plant it in a plastic container so it can't spread. I've had other plants that have spread and didn't get rid of them till I dug up the whole garden, rototilled and replanted (without the invasive ones)

Total shading of the area with black plastic for the season killed it for me. I do love it for tea though so grow it in a 20" plastic pot.

word of note regarding pot planting. I did that a few years ago, the roots grew out of the bottom and top of the pot, and it took several rounds of roundup throughout the following year to finally get rid of it. I just planted some this year on the edge of my woods, it pretty much get full shade, and is growing pretty slowly. Maybe that's the ticket?
