They're eating my hibiscus, crepe myrtle flowers, and marigold flowers, not that I care much about them. I pinch them between my thumb and index finger, thereby releasing my anger on them....one at a time. Die you little #$%'s! :-D

I walk around with my jar, tap them into the the inch or so of pond water in the bottom....they struggle and try to climb out to no avail. They are carried to the garden pond and dumped into the pond! More swimming and struggling ensues! Finally some reach a lily pad and climb aboard thinking they are safe at last.....then, seeming from no where a giant mouth appears and puts a fast end to their struggles! Oomper the bullfrog gets the meal but I get the last laugh!

i haven't seen any here for about 2 weeks now.

i can only assume that they've eaten their fill of the good stuff and have moved on. the only thing that was severely damaged were the hollyhocks. while they were all over everything, there doesn't appear to be TOO much damage.

i've seen trees lining the road in NJ between Pittstown and Clinton that were stripped completely.

I dump them into a jar, no water, then leave the jar in the sun. They die from some combination of heat and asphyxiation.

When my young elms are larger, I'm thinking of using Bayer's systemic insecticide. You apply it to the roots, and it spreads throughout the tree. They claim it lasts 12 months, but I'm skeptical. I figure if I apply it just after the seeds drop in the early spring, I can minimize exposure to any birds that eat the seeds. I've also considered then placing a JB trap lure in the tree, attracting thousands of beetles to a favorite treat, only to die after a few bites!
