I usually use bone meal or a general bulb fertilizer in spring and after flowering. My Bartzella came from Adelman's and is two years old and has about 10-12 eyes. Was yours a tissue culture plant or a small root when recieved?
It's 2 years old and came from the peony sale in KC.The first year it had four stems, this year 14. I hope they didn't sell tissue culture there. I guess I will fertilize a little.
my Bartzella is forming into a tree peony type. It still have herbaceous stems arising from the base... unsure whether these will form into tree stems... can anyone answer if this is normal for this plant? thanks
The tree like stems are normal for many peonies especially the intersectionals. It will depend on your weather if those stems develop into stems. I have one from a local breeder which sent out the stems for several years before the new growth did not die during the season.
You can also see some of the same tree peony type stems from some of the herbaceous ones such as Sarah Bernhart. Seems to happen more often when planted shallow.
