I've got some chrysanthemums that survived the winter, and I'd like to know the easiest way to keep them pretty. Seems I recall my mom telling me that you had to pinch new growth to keep them small and compact, but that is turning into toooooo much maintenance for these things. Can I just take shears and trim them back to 1' high periodically? Will they look really horrible if I don't prune them?

Thanks!
