I bought mine from my local feed & seed store. It was about $14 per 4cuft bag. I also found it at Ace Hardware, but it was $21/bag.

I'd say somewhere between 14-16 dollars for 4 cuft bags is about the going "good price" rate.

I was thrilled to find it for $13.15 for 4cuft. My local Agway has it for $25 per 4cuft. The only other place I've seen it locally is at Lowes and Ace for $4 for 8 qts.

it's not bad, but you can get a better price if you call a pool store. vermiculite is also called "pool base" and they put it under above-ground pools to soak up water that spills over. i found it for $12 for 4cubic feet. in case you're worried that pool base is somehow different than garden-grade vermiculite, rest assured: i actually called the company that bags it and they told me that pool base goes in the bag with the blue writing and garden-vermiculite goes in the bag with the red writing.

Sounds expensive to me, but then I almost never buy any sort of soil. I layer leaves, old produce, horse manure and sprinkle some wood shavings and wood ashes into my raised beds. Makes great soil that holds water well plus is very nutritious.

It depends on your budget and personal requirements. It's a fine price if you are busy and affluent. Otherwise, join the masses and get creative.
